Atlas Disposal Industries is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our dedicated team in maintaining and repairing our fleet of Refuse and Recycling Trucks. Responsibilities- Perform repairs and scheduled preventive maintenance on refuse and recycling trucks and related equipment in a shop environment.
- Review pre- and post-trip inspection sheets and address any identified issues.
- Diagnose, repair, rebuild, and adjust heavy-duty diesel-powered equipment, including engines, brakes, transmissions, drivelines, electrical, fuel, exhaust, cooling, suspension, and hydraulic systems.
- Utilize acetylene and arc welding tools for equipment repairs as needed.
- Document repair work performed and parts used in brief written descriptions.
- Operate heavy equipment to verify proper working order after repairs.
- Obtain a Forklift Operator Certificate (provided at company expense).
- Follow all company safety procedures and participate in shop safety meetings.
- Assist with inspecting the truck parking area and cleaning up any spilled materials.
- Occasionally respond to off-site locations for repairs or cleanups as needed.
- Perform other maintenance duties as assigned.
- Experience working on commercial vehicles or trucks.
- Experience in the waste industry is a plus.
- Valid Drivers License required; Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engine operation and repair, including hydraulic and air brake systems, electrical and cooling systems, transmissions, hydraulic pumps, motors, and control valves.
- Ability to diagnose and repair heavy-duty diesel equipment and read repair manuals and schematics.
- Proficient in the safe use of hand and power tools; must provide own tools.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
- Capable of working independently or as part of a team, and able to perform well under pressure.
- Physical ability to maneuver throughout the facility, use motor coordination, and lift up to 50 pounds.
$35.00 $40.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. Tool allowance program available, up to $200 per month.
