Hourly Rate: $20.01/hr - $25.65/hr
This is a great opportunity for hands-on experience in egg farming. You will be working as part of an important team at the farm, to help prepare the birds and their barns to reach their full potential.
We have multiple roles we are hiring for:
- Poultry Technician: Provide daily care for hens by following feeding, lighting, and cleanliness protocols while ensuring proper handling and barn maintenance. Collect and input flock performance data, operate egg packing equipment, and assist in identifying and preventing flock health issues. Adhere to farm safety, biosecurity, and audit standards, and perform additional duties as needed.
- Barn Technician: This role involves providing excellent care for hens by following feeding, lighting, and cleanliness routines, while ensuring proper handling and barn upkeep. You'll gather and input flock performance data, operate egg packing equipment, and assist in identifying and preventing flock health issues. The position also requires safe use of farm equipment, adherence to farm protocols including safety and biosecurity, and support with general farm duties as needed.
- Project Technician: This role involves assembling prefabricated equipment and working with metal components through cutting, grinding, drilling, and painting. You'll install various farm systems including ventilation, egg handling, and feed conveyors, as well as retrofit existing equipment in active poultry barns. Additional tasks include unloading shipments, maintaining equipment, and supporting general farm duties as needed.
- Maintenance Technician: Maintain feed and water systems, motors, pumps, conveyors, ventilation, and hydraulic equipment; performing minor building, plumbing, and electrical repairs; and overseeing general property maintenance. The role involves diagnosing mechanical issues, managing parts inventory, organizing work orders, and occasionally supervising crews for larger tasks. Candidates should be proactive in monitoring equipment to prevent downtime and committed to following safety, biosecurity, and animal welfare protocols. Weekend and alarm call rotations are required.
Work Environment
- Barn environments that can be noisy, odorous, hot, humid, and dusty
- Physical activity in a farm environment, like pushing and pulling, crouching, bending, reaching, as well as some climbing and working at heights
- Occasional repetitive lifting of objects of 10-25 pounds
Qualifications
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team
- Demonstrates positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills
- Demonstrates some observation, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
- Communication skills - written and oral
- Able to perform physical tasks that require strength, coordination, and dexterity. Able to occasionally lift 10-25 lbs repetitively
- Able to show up to work on time and ready to work. Must have flexibility in scheduling and the ability to take part in the rotating weekend and holiday schedule. Willing to work until the task is complete, which can require longer hours from time to time
- Able to execute all tasks in a safe manner
- Comfortable around farm animals. Able to follow animal welfare standards. Experience with agriculture or farm animals is considered an asset
- Mechanical skills are an asset
- On the job training will be provided
