Salary: Circa £55,000

Your Mission:

As a Lead Principal Engineer within the SSNA Platform Mechanical Integrated Delivery Team (IDT), you will be at the forefront of a complex and fast-paced submarine programme. Your leadership will be crucial in delivering engineering excellence across multiple systems, ensuring quality and collaboration every step of the way.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the delivery of engineering scope, ensuring timely and high-quality outputs across design, integration, and qualification.
  • Oversee technical ownership of mechanical systems, ensuring compliance and effective collaboration across interfaces.
  • Produce essential engineering artifacts, including documentation and calculations, while performing simulations and analyses.
  • Manage task allocation and progress tracking using structured tools (Jira/Confluence) to align with programme milestones.
  • Coach and support engineers at all levels, fostering their technical capability and confidence.
  • Collaborate closely with peers, suppliers, and stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain delivery momentum.
  • Review technical documentation, support hazard assessments, and manage change control with sound engineering judgment.
  • Proactively identify and address delivery shortfalls, embedding a culture of openness and continuous improvement.
Your Skills and Experience:

We’re looking for a confident leader who can mentor others and contribute to a collaborative culture. You should have:

  • A proven track record in delivering complex mechanical or multi-disciplinary engineering tasks in a regulated environment.
  • Experience in mentoring or coaching engineers to support their growth.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to lead discussions and build strong relationships.
  • The capability to collaborate effectively across various functions including engineering, project management, and supply chain.
  • Familiarity with task and documentation management tools like Jira and Confluence.
  • Working towards or already holding professional registration (CEng strongly preferred).
  • A STEM-related degree (or equivalent experience) with a solid foundation in systems thinking and platform-level integration.
