About the Job The Senior Network Operations Engineer supports all aspects of network operations activities and projects for the USCENTCOM Information Technology Services (CITS) Program, directly supporting the USCENTCOM J6. This position is based in Tampa, FL and plays a critical role in designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large-scale enterprise and global network environments. The role operates with significant autonomy, contributing technical leadership and solutions to complex, mission-critical networking challenges while representing the organization in technical forums and inter-organizational engagements.
Responsibilities Network Architecture & Engineering Develop network architecture specifications and detailed schematics. Provide detailed technical guidance for hardware and software implementation and maintenance techniques. Design and document interface controls, capturing all interface designs in a standardized format and storing them in a shared repository. Review and approve network engineering documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with network requirements. Network Operations & Troubleshooting
Install, configure, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco WAN/LAN routers and switches, including ASRs, ISRs, Catalyst, NX-OS, and Nexus platforms. Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco FTD firewalls, including FMC-based policy management. Conduct testing of network systems and perform packet capture analysis using tools such as Wireshark. Diagnose and resolve complex routing, switching, and connectivity issues across enterprise environments. Protocols & Technologies
Support and troubleshoot TCP/IP-based services and technologies, including DNS, FTP, SSH, ACLs, VLANs, DMZs, and BGP. Implement and maintain VPN technologies, including IPSEC, DMVPN, site-to-site VPNs, L3VPN, and VPLS. Support routing protocols including EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP. Program & Project Support
Contribute to the completion of specific programs and projects, independently developing approaches to complex problem solving. Establish and follow formal procedures for coordinating network integration activities among multiple teams to ensure complete interface coverage. Represent the organization in technical meetings, briefings, and discussions with internal and external stakeholders. Collaboration & Communication
Maintain frequent inter-organizational and external contacts to resolve technical issues. Negotiate priorities effectively and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support mission objectives. Participate in after-hours, weekend, and exercise support as required, including OCONUS travel. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with a focus in communications or a related field, plus at least 5 years of related technical experience in network and transport technologies, tools, and techniques. 5+ years of experience supporting large-scale enterprise or global networks in a fast-paced, diverse environment. Active TS/SCI security clearance. Applicable DoD 8140 or DoD 8570 certification. Strong understanding of TCP/IP fundamentals, routing and switching concepts, and network architecture. Ability to work independently with minimal direction and adapt to changing priorities. Willingness and ability to work evenings, weekends, and on-call support as needed. Ability to travel up to 10% annually, including OCONUS travel in support of USCENTCOM exercises. Preferred Qualifications
Cisco Certified CCNA, CCNP, CCDP, or equivalent certification. Experience supporting USCENTCOM and familiarity with its mission and IT environment. Experience troubleshooting Cisco ACI and NDFC datacenter networks. Experience managing and supporting Cisco ISE solutions across an enterprise environment. Demonstrated ability to integrate Cisco ISE with other network components through cross-functional collaboration.
