About Us
At KidShip, our mission is simple: Safe. Fun. Sailing. We provide a positive, inclusive, and adventure-filled summer camp experience where youth gain confidence on and off the water. Our team is passionate about working with kids, building youth leadership skills, and fostering a love for sailing and outdoor education. KidShip is the youth sailing program at Annapolis Sailing School, located on a beach with a beautiful view of the Severn River and Chesapeake Bay. Staff enjoy a supportive, fun workplace culture with opportunities to use camp boats and get on the water outside of camp hours.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director is a seasonal role from mid-May to mid-August, with the option of remote work or part-time work outside of camp season. The Assistant Director supports the Camp Director in the daily operations of the KidShip Sailing Camp summer program. This position involves supervising staff, ensuring camper safety, coordinating program logistics, and ensuring every camper has a positive and memorable experience. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with sailing/boating knowledge, experienced in youth leadership, an excellent communicator, and a problem solver who thrives in a fun outdoor setting.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Director in planning, implementing, and evaluating sailing and daily camp programs that align with the camp's mission and values.
- Supervise staff, provide ongoing guidance and feedback, and ensure a positive team culture.
- Oversee camper safety, enforce waterfront and boating safety procedures.
- Manage daily logistics, including check-in/check-out, attendance, and activity transitions.
- Support staff training and act as a role model for professionalism and teamwork.
- Serve as acting Director when the Director is unavailable.
- Communicate with parents and families as needed.
- Ensure all safety protocols, including water safety, sailing procedures, and emergency procedures, are consistently followed.
- Step in to assist with instruction, activities, or staff coverage as needed.
Qualifications
- 21+ years of age required.
- Sailing/boating knowledge required.
- Previous leadership experience in youth programs, camps, education, or outdoor recreation.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage staff and campers.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Enthusiastic about working with children in an outdoor and on-the-water environment.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) required.
- US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Certification preferred, but not required.
- Lifeguard certification preferred, but not required.
