The Construction Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily field operations for telecommunications construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with company standards, customer requirements, and local/state/federal regulations. This role leads crews and subcontractors while maintaining quality control and strong communication with internal teams, clients, and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
Crew Leadership & Site Management
- Supervise and support underground and aerial construction crews, including operators, laborers, linemen, and locators.
- Conduct daily tailgate meetings to communicate jobsite goals, safety topics, and daily work plans.
- Coach and mentor less experienced team members and hold crews accountable for safety, quality, and production.
- Coordinate with job site foremen to ensure production goals are achieved.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce compliance with OSHA, DOT, NESC, 811 regulations, and internal safety policies.
- Ensure proper use of PPE, climbing gear, fall protection, trench protection, and traffic control.
- Document and address near misses, hazards, and incidents; enforce stop-work authority when needed.
- Approve and submit daily safety documentation (e.g., JHAs, pre-job briefings).
- Conduct and document at least five jobsite safety inspections per week.
Project Execution & Quality Control
- Review job prints, permits, maps, and dig tickets before mobilization.
- Schedule work to optimize productivity and minimize delays.
- Oversee execution of trenching, boring, pole transfers, fiber lashing, slack storage, grounding, and cabinet/vault installation.
- Communicate field changes in real-time to managers for approval.
- Monitor installation quality of conduit, strand, fiber, tracer wire, and restoration work.
- Record redlines and field changes; ensure accurate documentation for project closeout.
Productivity & Resource Coordination
- Set daily and weekly production targets; monitor progress and troubleshoot delays.
- Track labor hours, equipment usage, and material consumption across multiple job sites.
- Communicate project status, material shortages, and permitting issues to management in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with logistics, warehouse, engineering, and subcontractors to minimize downtime.
Communication & Reporting
- Serve as the liaison between field crews, upper management, and clients.
- Maintain digital job documentation, including daily production reports, JHAs, safety forms, and logs.
- Provide accurate and timely updates to company leadership and project stakeholders.
- Represent company values and maintain professional conduct on all job sites.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in underground and/or aerial telecom construction supervision preferred.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting construction prints, city maps, and telecom designs.
- Working knowledge of NESC, OSHA, and state dig laws (811).
- Strong digital literacy; comfortable with tablets, spreadsheets, project tracking tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Skilled in operating construction equipment (mini-excavators, trenchers, HDD rigs) and office equipment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, calmly, and assertively.
- Capable of making independent decisions and solving problems under pressure.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or certifications are a plus.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
- Valid driver's license required; ability to travel to multiple job sites daily.
