Role Summary - LOCATED NORTHEAST, USA ONLY

The Project Development & Energy Engineer supports the planning, development, and delivery of energy and infrastructure projects from early concept through construction, commissioning, and closeout. This role combines technical engineering, energy analysis, and project execution support to ensure projects are feasible, cost-effective, and delivered in compliance with performance, safety, and contractual requirements.

Projects span energy efficiency, renewable energy, distributed generation, HVAC, controls, lighting, power systems, and building upgrades across commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities. The engineer works closely with project managers, contractors, vendors, and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support early-stage project development through technical feasibility assessments, constructability reviews, and cost and energy performance analysis
  • Contribute to conceptual and detailed engineering design, including energy modeling and system selection
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and subcontractor submittals to ensure alignment with design intent and project requirements
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors to confirm equipment selection, pricing, and technical scope
  • Provide engineering and technical support during construction, addressing field conditions, design clarifications, and installation issues
  • Support system commissioning, startup, functional testing, and performance verification
  • Assist with project closeout activities, including as-built documentation and operational handoff
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, codes, and industry best practices
  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to support schedule, budget, and quality objectives

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in energy efficiency, renewable energy, or design-build project environments
  • Ability to interpret and review engineering drawings, specifications, and construction submittals
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, lighting, power systems, and distributed generation
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required

Preferred

  • Experience with building energy modeling and simulation tools (e.g., eQuest or similar)
  • Professional certification or progress toward PE, CEM, or LEED credentials
  • Construction and commissioning experience
  • Familiarity with applicable U.S. codes and standards (e.g., NEC, OSHA, NFPA, ASHRAE)
