À propos

The Role

This is a backend-focused
Staff Software Engineer
role (approximately 70–80% backend) within a cross-functional product team. While you will collaborate closely with Front-End Engineers, your primary responsibility will be designing and building scalable, secure, cloud-native backend systems.

You will operate as a technical leader—driving architectural decisions, setting engineering standards, and mentoring other engineers—without direct people management responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Own backend architecture and service design for a new cloud-native automation platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security
  • Lead the design and implementation of microservices, APIs, and distributed systems, collaborating closely with Front-End Engineers using the React ecosystem
  • Serve as a technical authority for backend development, influencing long-term architectural decisions and trade-offs
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities to integrate Generative AI capabilities to improve automation, efficiency, and customer outcomes
  • Establish and uphold engineering best practices across testing, observability, performance tuning, and secure coding
  • Drive code quality through thoughtful code reviews, architecture discussions, and evolving engineering guidelines
  • Mentor and support engineers in areas such as cloud architecture, microservices design, CI/CD automation, and system scalability
  • Partner with Product Management and other stakeholders to translate business needs into robust technical solutions
  • Continuously improve developer experience, system maintainability, and delivery velocity

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience building cloud native, enterprise-grade backend systems in AWS or Azure
  • Deep knowledge of microservices architecture, cloud-native design, and distributed systems
  • Strong production experience with C# / .NET Core, plus proficiency in at least one additional modern language (Go, Python, NodeJS or Java)
  • Experience designing and implementing secure, scalable APIs and backend services
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, database theory (ACID, CAP), and trade-offs
  • Hands-on experience with both relational databases (Postgres, SQL Server, or equivalent) and NoSQL stores (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis, etc.)
  • Experience automating infrastructure using Terraform, CloudFormation, or equivalent IaC tools
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Git, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar
  • Strong understanding of Agile development practices
  • Excellent problem-solving, system design, and communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience integrating Generative AI services (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, AWS Bedrock, etc.) into production systems
  • Familiarity with the React and ecosystem to support effective collaboration with frontend teams
  • Experience building or operating systems handling PHI or working in HIPAA-compliant environments
  • Prior experience in healthcare, fintech, or other regulated industries

Opportunity for Impact

The healthcare industry is facing an unprecedented efficiency crisis. Over the next decade, a growing shortage of physicians combined with increasingly complex regulatory and reporting requirements is placing immense strain on healthcare providers and payers. Administrative workflows—such as claims processing, provider data management, and prior authorizations—consume valuable time, introduce errors, and distract from patient care.

HealthCare Information Management's (HCIM's) mission is to transform these workflows through intelligent automation and modern cloud-native software. As a
Staff Software Engineer
, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the architecture and technical direction of our next-generation platform—directly influencing how healthcare organizations operate at scale.

This role offers high impact, deep technical ownership, and the opportunity to work on systems that handle sensitive, mission-critical data with real-world consequences.

Work Environment

This role is remote and requires collaboration with Colleagues and clients across the U.S. Occasional travel for client visits or internal team meetings may be required (up to 20%).

This job description is not exhaustive; the Staff Software Engineer may perform other duties as needed to support HCIM's goals.
