Job DescriptionCHECKSET is seeking an experienced construction professional to perform preconstruction coordination and constructability reviews of architectural and consultant construction documents. This is not a traditional Project Engineer, Superintendent, or Project Manager role. There is no jobsite management, no submittals, and no RFIs. Instead, this role focuses on identifying errors, omissions, conflicts, and coordination gaps in construction documents before they impact cost, schedule, and relationships in the field. This position is ideal for professionals who have spent years dealing with downstream construction issues and want to apply that experience upstream - where it has the greatest impact.
Responsibilities- Review and Analysis: Conduct in-depth reviews of architectural and consultant drawings including but not limited to Structural, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing), Landscape, and Civil drawings for accuracy, completeness, and consistency across all disciplines.
- Conflict Identification: Pinpoint conflicts, ambiguities, errors, and omissions within and between drawing sets and specifications.
- Code Compliance: Verify that plans comply with all applicable local, state, and federal building codes, ordinances, and industry standards.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with the internal project team to ensure all feedback is clearly communicated.
- Ensure adherence to both industry & CHECKSET standards while contributing to the development of best practices database.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Possesses advanced trade knowledge and demonstrates applied expertise in a similar role, such as a Plan Reviewer, Construction Administrator, or Project Manager with significant plan review experience.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, construction practices, and building codes.
- Familiarity with construction techniques, materials, and equipment.
- Applies specialized knowledge of MEP systems-including plumbing, HVAC, electrical distribution, fire protection, and building automation systems-to identify deficiencies.
- Experience reviewing design and construction documents (e.g., blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications) for feasibility and alignment with project requirements; working on multi-disciplinary engineering and construction teams.
- Ability to anticipate and identify construction-related issues before project execution.
- Ability to assess and identify design deficiencies to minimize risks, costs, and timelines.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex engineering and construction plans and specifications.
- Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Receptivity to Training: Must be eager to learn and integrate CHECKSET's unique methodologies. Our proprietary process requires adaptation and ongoing training.
- Transparent Communication: Should maintain clear and ongoing dialogue with managers and team members, ensuring constant alignment with team goals and processes.
