Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Medication Assistant to join our healthcare team. This role involves providing safe and effective medication administration and supporting patient care within assisted living, nursing homes, hospitals, or home care settings. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medication protocols, with experience working with diverse populations including seniors, individuals with developmental disabilities, dementia, Alzheimer's, and hospice care. The position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in patients' lives while working in a supportive environment that values professionalism and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Administer prescribed medications accurately following physician orders and facility protocols
  • Monitor and record vital signs, patient responses, and medication effects using EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner
  • Assist with activities of daily living including tube feeding, catheter care, and other personal hygiene tasks
  • Maintain detailed medical documentation ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and confidentiality standards
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members regarding medication schedules and patient needs
  • Support patients with memory care, dementia care, and other cognitive impairments through compassionate caregiving approaches
  • Recognize and report any adverse reactions or changes in patient condition promptly to supervising nurses or physicians
  • Adhere to safety protocols for infection control and medication handling in accordance with healthcare regulations

Experience

  • Prior experience in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or home care environments is highly preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and nursing practices related to medication administration
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs such as developmental disabilities or hospice patients is advantageous
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner is desirable
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team while maintaining attention to detail and adhering to strict safety standards
  • Certification as a Medication Assistant is required; additional certifications in caregiving or specialized patient care are a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills to provide empathetic support for seniors and individuals with complex health conditions
