Job Summary:

The Store Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a single Pet Pros location, driving sales performance, ensuring exceptional guest service, and leading all aspects of store staffing, training, and development. This role focuses on maximizing store profitability while fostering a positive, inclusive work environment rooted in Pet Pros' mission and values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead all aspects of store operations, including scheduling, inventory control, merchandising, cash handling, and store maintenance.
  • Deliver and model exceptional guest service, ensuring each customer is greeted warmly and assisted with professionalism and care.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop team members; conduct regular coaching sessions and performance evaluations.
  • Build a strong, motivated team culture that promotes continuous learning, accountability, and recognition.
  • Collaborate with the District Manager to create and execute plans that drive sales goals, operational excellence, and guest satisfaction.
  • Manage payroll, labor hours, and expenses in alignment with company targets.
  • Ensure all visual merchandising, product displays, and in-store promotions are executed in accordance with company standards.
  • Enforce adherence to safety policies and operational procedures, including regular store safety meetings.
  • Monitor shrinkage, conduct loss prevention measures, and maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Provide feedback and performance guidance to staff in accordance with all policies on disciplinary action and documentation.
  • Complete regular operational audits, store walkthroughs, and follow-ups from corporate visits.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Directly supervises all store-level team members, including Keyholders, Sales Associates, and Assistant Managers (if applicable).
  • Responsible for employee performance management, training, coaching, scheduling, and payroll/timecard approvals.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of retail management experience (pet industry experience preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to resolve issues professionally and efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and retail POS systems.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours when needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Background in pet retail, veterinary, grooming, or animal care industries is a plus.
  • Experience with visual merchandising and local store marketing strategies.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the day.
  • Ability to lift and move products and animals up to and over 45 pounds.
  • Must be comfortable working in an environment with live animals.
  • Must be able to operate store equipment and use cleaning supplies safely.
Work Environment:
  • Retail store environment with interaction from customers, pets, and coworkers.
  • May involve occasional travel to other stores, meetings, or events.

Requirements:

Working Environment: This job operates in a retail environment with merchandise displays and inventory items available for purchase.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position; days and hours of work vary. This position requires the flexibility to work within our regular store operating hours, including before and/or after hours and weekends. At times, long hours may be required. The Store Manager is expected to work varied shifts on a rotational basis to interact regularly with all team members.

Travel: Occasional travel to other stores, meetings, and events, at times before or after hours, is expected with this position.

Required Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 5 years of experience in a retail store
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Experience specifically managing a staff of retail workers
  • Associate's degree
