Job Description Summary:
The Temporary Procurement Operations Lead will provide critical operational support to the procurement function during a transitional or peak demand period. This contract role is responsible for helping to maintain day-to-day procurement operations, ensuring process continuity, and supporting system functionality while managing transactional procurement activities. The position may provide functional guidance to Procurement Coordinators, maintain compliance with institutional policies, and support ongoing procurement initiatives. This role requires someone who can quickly adapt to existing systems (Workday and Jaggear) and processes while maintaining operational efficiency and service quality.
Characteristic Duties
- Provide operational guidance to Procurement Coordinators on procurement process and activities including vendor onboarding, purchase requisitions, PO creation, and invoice resolution
- Manage day-to-day procurement operations including requisition processing, PO generation, vendor setup, and transaction troubleshooting
- Work daily with Workday and Jaggaer procurement systems, coordinating with IT and Finance as needed on process improvements
- Participate in process improvement initiatives as directed (Workday, Jaggaer, Procurement Policies, metrics generation)
- Ensure adherence to procurement policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Collaborate with Lab Managers (ALMs), Accounts Payable, and administrative staff to maintain timely procurement processing
- Assist with vendor inquiries and basic supplier relationship management
- Participate in process improvement initiatives as directed (Workday, Jaggaer, Procurement Policies, metrics generation)
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of hands-on procurement or supply chain experience
- Demonstrated proficiency with enterprise procurement systems (Workday and/or Jaggaer strongly preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of procure-to-pay processes and vendor management
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Strong communication skills and collaborative work style
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Immediate availability or ability to start within ~30 days
Preferred:
- Experience in academic, research, or healthcare procurement environments
- Familiarity with laboratory supplies, reagents, and scientific equipment categories
- Experience providing functional leadership without direct supervisory authority
- Working knowledge of compliance requirements in research procurement
