Overview Product Business Analyst / Delivery Lead
Full time – 5 days / 35 hours per week. Based in the Nottingham office with a hybrid working policy.
Exciting opportunity for an experienced Business Analyst to join a fast-paced high growth PE-backed global software provider to deliver crucial support within the Product team.
Altia empowers government, public and private sector with actionable intelligence solutions to combat increasingly complex crimes. Specialising in crime reduction, we help make the world a safer place. We currently have around 90 employees supporting clients globally, including law enforcement, government departments, regulatory & tax authorities, and private sector customers.
Our solutions save time on investigations and reduce costs across criminal and civil investigations, fraud, incident management and other areas. Our team is focused on providing client support and ensuring our software delivers value for customers.
The role will be based at our Nottingham office and will involve working alongside the Head of Product. While we operate a hybrid policy, regular office attendance is expected after induction and training.
Note: The successful candidate will be security vetted. You must have lived in the UK for continuous 3 years prior to employment and provide proof of address for the previous 5 years. If you do not meet this criterion, you may not pass initial screening as vetting is required for every Altia employee.
The Role You will help analyse needs, define requirements, and support day-to-day product delivery. In specific situations, you may act as a proxy Product Owner to maintain clarity and momentum for the team. Full strategic product direction remains with Product Owners, but you will play a crucial role in enabling smooth execution.
Customer-facing communication is a significant part of this role, as you will work directly with customers to understand issues, validate requirements, and support positive outcomes within a live SaaS environment.
Key Responsibilities Product Owner Support & Proxy Duties
Analyse business, customer, and operational needs using appropriate business analysis techniques.
Create clear, well-structured artefacts such as user stories and acceptance criteria, process and workflow diagrams, and functional and non-functional requirements.
Collaborate closely with Engineering to define scope, understand dependencies, and support delivery.
Support testing and release readiness activities for SaaS deployments.
Help balance short-term customer requirements with long-term product considerations.
Conduct proxy Scrum Master duties, prioritise the backlog, and chair Scrum ceremonies, particularly in the Operations Teams.
Business Analysis & Delivery Support
Analyse business, customer, and operational needs using suitable BA techniques.
Create clear, well-structured artefacts such as:
User stories and acceptance criteria
Process and workflow diagrams
Functional and non-functional requirements
Work closely with Engineering to define scope, understand dependencies, and support delivery.
Support testing and release readiness activities for SaaS deployments.
Help balance short-term customer requirements with longer-term product considerations.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
Engage directly with customers to understand requirements or investigate issues.
Work with Support and Customer Success to identify trends, themes, and improvement opportunities.
Communicate customer needs clearly within Product and Engineering discussions.
Share progress, challenges, and outcomes clearly and professionally.
Ensure customer feedback is captured and fed into product decision-making processes.
Collaboration & Ways of Working
Contribute as part of a cross-functional Agile product team.
Help improve product, delivery, and operational ways of working.
Raise risks, clarify assumptions, and support constructive problem-solving.
Work pragmatically and with a focus on achieving meaningful outcomes.
Skills & Experience Essential
Experience as a Business Analyst working on SaaS or software products.
Experience working alongside a Product Owner.
Willingness and confidence to act as a proxy PO with guidance.
Strong customer-facing experience, including direct interaction with external users.
Good user story writing and backlog refinement skills.
Experience working in Agile / Scrum environments.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Comfortable working with evolving priorities and some ambiguity.
Has experience of UX/UI practices and process improvement.
Desirable
Experience with complex or workflow-driven B2B SaaS products.
Exposure to live service or support-driven operational environments.
Experience in public sector, regulated, or mission-critical contexts.
Familiarity with tooling such as Azure DevOps and Asana or similar.
