Summary Of Role Reporting to the Technical Director, CField are seeking a motivated and qualified Junior Design Manager to join our existing team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Manager and Quantity Surveyors on each project and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of all drawing issues pertaining to site(s) and the flow and co-ordination of same. The Junior Design Manager will also be responsible for assisting in the delivery of accurate and co-ordinated design information from the inception of projects and sketch schemes through design development to the construction phases, culminating with as built information. They will control and manage both internal resources and external consultants to ensure the preparation in a timely manner to support the projects overall design, procurement and construction programmes. The role must be conducted in accordance with the CField Construction management process and procedures to assist in ensuring the successful completion of the project(s) on time, on budget and to the highest standards. All of this must occur within the parameters of the highest level of company health & safety, environmental and quality procedures. Key Duties & Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to:
Support the Design Manager in delivering design management services in line with the RIBA Plan of Work and the project’s procurement route.
Assist in developing and maintaining the Design Management Plan, design programme, and deliverables schedule.
Track consultant and subcontractor design deliverables against the construction and procurement programme.
Assist in managing the design team, including architects, engineers, and specialist designers, under contractor-led procurement.
Support the management of Contractor Designed Portions (CDPs) and Design Responsibility Matrices.
Help coordinate design information between consultants, trade contractors, site teams, and the commercial team.
Manage design information through the project Common Data Environment (CDE) (Procore).
Maintain drawing registers, technical submittals, RFIs, and design trackers in accordance with project protocols.
Assist in reviewing design information for: compliance with Employers Requirements (ERs); buildability, sequencing, and temporary works implications; coordination between disciplines.
Identify potential design risks, clashes, or non-compliances and escalate them to the Design Manager. Support coordination of design information.
Assist in ensuring designs comply with relevant British Standards, Approved Documents, planning permission and project specifications.
Support compliance with the CDM Regulations, particularly regarding design risk identification and mitigation; design risk registers; coordination with the Principal Designer and Principal Contractor; promote safe-by-design principles and support the preparation of HAZID / design risk workshops.
Support the maintenance of the BIM Execution Plan (BEP).
Participate in clash detection reviews and assist in managing model updates from consultants and subcontractors.
Support the management of design changes and ensure proper change control procedures are followed.
Assist in assessing design changes for programme, cost, and compliance impacts.
Contribute to value engineering and contractor-led design optimisation exercises.
Attend and assist in chairing design coordination meetings and technical workshops.
Prepare agendas, minutes, and action trackers.
Support the Design Manager in reporting design progress and risks to the Project Manager and client.
Support quality assurance of design information prior to construction issue.
Assist in compiling design information for O&M manuals, Health & Safety File, and handover documentation.
Ensure as-built design information is coordinated and issued in line with contract requirements.
Key Experience
Degree/Diploma in relevant construction related topics (Architecture / Civil Engineering / Structural Engineering / Services Engineering, etc.)
1-2 years experience in a similar role is preferable
Primary Sectors: Residential Apartments, Student Accommodation, Hotel and Leisure, Offices, Refurbishment, Care Homes and Housing.

Additional Information In some cases, on large/very large/multi-sectional projects, the Junior Design Manager may be resident on site as part of a larger team, however, in most cases they will share their skill sets with a number of sites (if required). Some projects may require more than one Design Manager (large, multi-sectional) all of whom should report to the Senior Design Manager.
