CNC Machinist Toolmaker

Job Overview
The Machinist is a high-level technical role responsible for the independent programming, setup, and precision machining of complex parts. We are looking for a craftsman who takes pride in holding tight tolerances and can take a project from a raw drawing to a finished, inspected part with minimal supervision.

Top 5 DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Advanced Setup & Programming: Program (G-code/CAM) and perform full setups on CNC Mills and Lathes, including tool selection, offsets, and workholding.
• Quality Documentation: Perform first-article inspections and in-process monitoring using precision metrology tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to ensure print specifications are met. Document inspection results when appropriate.
• Technical Interpretation: Interpret complex blueprints, 3D models, and GD&T symbols to determine the most efficient machining sequences.
• Process Optimization: Identify and implement improvements in cycle times, tool life, and fixture design to boost shop productivity.
• Tooling Management: Maintain and troubleshoot machine tools, ensuring equipment is calibrated and performing at peak precision.

SKILLS / ABILITIES:

• Technical Literacy: Ability to interpret complex geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Mathematical Proficiency: Strong shop math skills (trigonometry/geometry) for part layout and calculations.
• Analytical Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot G-code and mechanical issues at the spindle.
• Precision Focus: High attention to detail with a "right the first time" mentality for high-value materials.
• Physical Requirements: Able to stand for 8 hours and lift 50 lbs as required for material loading.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

• Required: 3+ years of experience in CNC Programming and Setup (Mills, Lathes, and Shears).
• Required: Proven experience with precision inspection equipment and manual machining tools.
• Preferred: Experience with Haas programming is a plus.
• Preferred: Journeyman card, Certified Toolmaker, or Machinist Certification are pluses.

Pay: $ $34.25 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
