We are looking for a Sous Chef to help lead BOH execution, develop the kitchen team, and keep standards high every day.

Role Overview

As a Sous Chef at Rooted, you will help oversee daily kitchen operations and support the success and growth of the BOH team. This role is hands-on and execution-focused. You will run service, maintain prep readiness, and hold the team accountable to Rooted standards in a fast-paced environment. The Sous Chef reports to the AGM and is responsible for overall BOH execution on shift

Scope of Responsibilities (include but not limited to)

  • Lead production and service according to Rooted standards for quality, speed, and cleanliness
  • Ensure accurate execution of recipes, portioning, and presentation
  • Maintain a strong understanding of our menu and taste product regularly to ensure consistency
  • Complete daily management tasks consistently and on time (prep readiness, pars, station setup, organization)
  • Coach and train BOH staff on food prep, safe handling, equipment use, and sanitation
  • Maintain a calm, solutions-first leadership style during peak volume and rush periods
  • Establish and maintain cleaning + maintenance routines for equipment, storage, and work areas
  • Support inventory discipline and food cost controls while ensuring product is always available
  • Communicate clearly with FOH/management to prevent bottlenecks and keep service moving
  • Support BOH team culture: accountability, reliability, and high standards without chaos

Position Requirements

  • Minimum 2–3 years of culinary/kitchen leadership experience in a high-volume operation
  • Ability to grasp, reach overhead, push, lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Strong understanding of quality product, efficient production, and consistency under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail and high personal standards for cleanliness and organization
  • Ability to lead and coach a team: clear communication, high accountability, and positive energy
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation best practices
  • Reliable, punctual, and emotionally steady during busy service
  • High school education or equivalent
