Job Summary
The CMM Programming Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) inspection programs to ensure the quality and accuracy of manufactured components. This role requires a strong understanding of metrology principles, GD&T, and various CMM software platforms.
Job Responsibilities
* Develop, validate, and optimize CMM inspection programs for complex aerospace, automotive, or medical components using various CMM software (e.g., PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS).
* Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications to determine appropriate measurement strategies and GD&T requirements.
* Conduct first article inspections (FAI), in-process inspections, and final inspections using CMMs and other metrology equipment.
* Analyze inspection data, identify trends, and provide feedback to design and manufacturing teams to drive continuous improvement.
* Collaborate with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and quality assurance personnel to resolve measurement challenges and improve product quality.
* Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of CMM equipment.
* Train and mentor junior CMM operators and technicians on programming and operational best practices.
* Develop and maintain detailed CMM program documentation, including setup sheets, inspection reports, and work instructions.
* Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives related to measurement discrepancies.
* Stay current with industry best practices, new technologies, and advancements in CMM hardware and software.
Job Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Metrology, or a related technical field.
* 3+ years of experience in CMM programming in a manufacturing environment (aerospace, automotive, medical device industry preferred).
* Proficiency in at least one major CMM programming software (e.g., PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS).
* Strong understanding and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 standards.
* Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and 3D CAD models.
* Experience with various CMM types (bridge, horizontal arm, vision systems) and probing technologies.
* Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100).
* Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, NX) is a plus.
