Position Summary :
This position will be responsible for maintaining the provision of basic needs services and general facilities within the Homeless Day Service Center (HDSC). This position ensures operations are equitable, efficient, and orderly while maintaining the core values of the HDSC and agency. This position's primary focus is engaging with individuals seeking services at the HDSC and triaging their needs. Basic needs services at the HDSC include showers, laundry, mail, locker access, food/coffee, phone usage, connection to appointments, referrals to community partners, and other services. This position manages donations and scheduling with community partners. In addition, this position is responsible for fulfilling the health & safety coordinator duties for the HDSC site.
Job Responsibilities and Performance Standards:
- Access to shower and laundry facilities
- Receipt, filing, and distribution of mail and packages to individuals seeking services; mail must be filed before opening the HDSC the following day
- Access to lockers
- Receipt and distribution of food donations from community partners
- Receipt and distribution of other donations from community partners
- Distribution and inventory management of relevant toiletry supplies
- Fresh coffee daily
- Coordination of rotations of individuals in/out of the building
- Additional accommodations (as applicable) during inclement weather
- Assist individuals in accessing community resources internal and external to ABHS
- Maintain a clean and organized environment within the HDSC lobby, kitchen, and locker rooms by completion of tasks such as washing the dishes used to serve food, tidying the lobby/locker rooms, and filing or discarding excess paper prior to end of shift
- Other related duties as assigned or needed
- Receive incoming telephone calls to the HDSC and monitor voicemails within a reasonable timeframe
- In some cases, this position may need to provide de-escalation, consequences for rule violations, conflict resolution, or other creative problem-solving activities in a fast-paced environment
- Ensure HDSC compliance with Advantage's health and safety policies including coordination of safety drills for emergency situations during team meetings, monitor safety equipment, maintain documentation for relevant health and safety standards at HDSC, file vehicle logs, and other relevant duties Qualifications
- Ability to build and maintain relationships among members of the target population and representatives of local community service organizations
- View, inspect, review, and analyze documents, spreadsheets, policies, etc.
- Respond to a range of clients' needs, dispositions, moods, and behaviors
- Provide appropriate crisis intervention services
- Demonstrate understanding of sound ethical practice in conjunction with the established and defined ethics of one's training and discipline
- Must effectively demonstrate appropriate boundary setting with potential clients to support ethical service delivery and promote self-empowerment and determination
- Effectively organize time and responsibilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; and ability to multi-task and handle varying tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines
- Work as part of a team, with other program staff
- Ability to utilize a computer, send/receive emails, electronically file documents, and utilize Microsoft Office applications
- Take initiative in improving service provision, noting areas of concern/risk, and creatively and collaboratively problem solving with team members
Technical Competencies:
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's level degree in Social Services or other related field. Proven experience can be substituted for formal education. Individuals with lived experience of homelessness are strongly encouraged to apply. A passion for connecting with individuals with behavioral health barriers is a must.
At least 1 year of related experience and/or training pertaining to mental health service provision, working with unhoused individuals and their families, community or residential-based services, certified peer specialist certifications, or other relevant areas.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's level degree from an accredited educational institution in Psychology, Social Work, or Community Counseling AND at least 2 years of related experience and/or training of mental health, working with unhoused individuals and their families, or community/residential-based services.
Physical Demands :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
