Wilson Sonsini is seeking a Conflicts Attorney to support the review, identification, and resolution of ethical and business conflicts of interest related to new client and matter intake, lateral hires, and ongoing representations. This role works closely with attorneys and business stakeholders to ensure timely conflicts clearance and efficient matter progression. The Conflicts Attorney will conduct daily reviews of firm conflicts reports, identify and resolve issues using sound legal judgment, and provide practical, solutions-oriented guidance consistent with professional responsibility rules and Firm policies.
Location: Fully Remote (based in PST time zone)
Hours: 9:30 to 6:30 PM PST
Key Responsibilities
- Review and provide thorough and timely analysis of all Firm new business to identify ethical and business conflicts of interest.
- Utilize internal and external databases and communicate with Partners, attorneys, and business services professionals to resolve conflicts efficiently.
- Apply professional responsibility rules, Firm policies, and applicable laws to assess risk and determine appropriate conflict resolution strategies.
- Proactively communicate with department leadership on complex conflicts questions and other compliance issues.
- Maintain accurate and current documentation of conflicts analyses and resolutions to ensure database integrity and support future conflicts clearance.
- Provide guidance to Executive Assistants, attorneys, and staff regarding the Firm's new matter intake, conflicts, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and related compliance procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- Strong understanding of legal ethics and conflicts of interest principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly and professionally.
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and make well-reasoned recommendations consistent with standards, policies, and regulations.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively across teams and locations.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree required; bar license preferred.
- Prior experience in conflicts, professional responsibility, or law firm compliance is a plus.
- Prior experience with intake systems, legal research tools, and standard technology platforms is a plus.
The compensation for this position may include a discretionary year-end merit bonus based on performance. We offer a highly competitive salary and benefits package.
