Forest Technician

Position: Forest Technician (New Position)
Location: Field-based – Crown & Private Land Operations (Ontario)
Reports To: Wood Procurement Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a Forest Technician to support a sustainable and reliable wood supply through hands-on, field-based forestry work. This role works directly with company and contractor harvesting crews and is heavily involved in private land wood supply development, timber assessment, harvest layout, and compliance inspections.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain relationships with private landowners
• Identify and assess private land wood supply opportunities
• Conduct timber cruising, tree marking, and silvicultural treatments
• Complete harvest block layout, including trails, landings, and buffers
• Assist with forest road layout, inspections, and access planning
• Conduct operational and compliance inspections on Crown and private lands
• Work directly with harvesting crews to provide real-time field support
• Promote and enforce safety and environmental protection practices
• Operate or learn to operate forestry equipment as required

Qualifications

• Forestry diploma, degree, or equivalent practical experience
• Several years of hands-on experience in forest operations or silviculture
• Experience on Ontario Crown land
• Strong field skills in marking, cruising, layout, compliance, and access planning
• Ability to work independently in field environments
• Valid driver's licence

Working Conditions

• Field-based role in active harvesting and road construction areas
• 44 hour regular work week
• Variable hours depending on season

Compensation & Benefits

• Expected wage: $70,000 and up annually, depending on experience and qualifications
