Description
The County of Tehama Public Works Department is looking for an energetic, innovative, and organized Engineer to oversee the technical programs in the Department. Areas of concentration include our capital projects (roads and bridges), technical assistance to the Planning and Building Departments, transportation permits, and assistance to our Operations Division. The position requires coordination with Caltrans and our regulatory partners. Prior experience with bridge projects is highly desirable. Supervisory responsibilities including the preparation of performance appraisals, assigning and monitoring work are also within the scope of duties. It is expected that the selected individual will represent the Department and the County at various meetings, workshops, and conferences. The Engineering Division is currently working on over a dozen projects ranging from $250,000 to $25M within the County's 2,962 square miles.

Examples of Duties
- Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, trains, and reviews the work of assigned staff in the engineering work unit.
- Determines and recommends equipment, materials, and staffing needs for assigned public works projects; prepares detailed cost estimates with appropriate justifications, as required; maintains a variety of records and prepares routine reports of work performance.
- Oversees the development of consultant requests for proposal for professional and/or construction services and the advertising and bid processes; evaluates proposals, and recommends project award; administers contracts after award.
- Negotiates and administers contracts for construction projects; ensures contractor compliance with County standards and specifications, time and budget estimates; analyzes and resolves complex problems that may arise; recommends and approves field changes as required.
- Performs engineering work for the most complex designs for public works construction projects.
- Prepares requests for and secures funding from Federal and State grant programs and other funding sources for special public works projects.

Education, Experience & Licenses
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree with major coursework in civil engineering or a related engineering field.
- Five (5) years of professional engineering design, plan review, and project administration experience, preferably in a public agency setting, including two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience.
License & Special Requirements :
- Requires a valid California driver's license.
- Requires a Registered Professional Civil Engineer license in the State of California.

*Rates listed in this flyer represent a full-time employee's accrual rate and health insurance premium rate. Part-time employees will have pro-rated accruals and health insurance premium rates based on the number of hours they work.

SALARY:
- Annual salary step increases based upon satisfactory performance and completion of one year of employment (Step A to E).
HEALTH:
- Approximately 80% of the premium for medical, dental, and vision plan is paid by the County (EPO Plan). The plan covers the employee and all eligible dependents at NO ADDITIONAL COST!
- Employee premiums are $234.54 per month as of January 1, 2025 for employee and all eligible dependents.
PAID LEAVES:
- Benefits also include an annual paid leave plan of
- 96 hours of vacation (increases upon continuous years of service)
- 96 hours of sick leave
- 14 paid holidays plus one 8 hour personal holiday
- Approximately 80% of the premium for a $30,000 life insurance plan for the employee is paid for by the County.
