Melmark is a nonprofit organization providing clinically-sophisticated evidence-based special education, residential, vocational, and therapeutic services for children and adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, developmental and intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries, medical complexities, and other neurological and genetic disorders.
Speech Language Pathologist Assistant Overview
The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for all clinical duties including identification, diagnosis and therapy of individuals with communication disorders which are appropriate to the ages and populations served. Additional clinical duties of therapists include management of treatment delivered through direct therapeutic services, tracking information and consultative services as needed.
Schedule and Salary Information
Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4pm
Salary is $55,000+ based on experience.
Requirements
Education/Training: Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
Certification; Full licensure as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant with the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (NCBOESLPA).
Skill(s): Strong background in technology, basis knowledge in the principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis, clinical application of severe communication deficits with individuals with acquired brain injury, neurological disorders and autism spectrum disorders. Some experience working with individuals with significant challenging behaviors. Some experience with alternative and alternative communication (AAC) with nonverbal individuals.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience working within Special Education or a related field and experience working with Speech Output Devices is strongly recommended.
Speech Language Pathologist Assistant Responsibilities
Provide direct therapy under the supervision of the Speech-Language Pathologist.
Under the direct supervision of the Speech/Language Pathologist will assist in the development and maintenance of Picture Communication Systems and functional communication materials.
Under the direct supervision of the Speech/Language Pathologist will assist in the programming and maintenance of all Speech Output Devices utilized by students at the Melmark Carolinas School.
Scans assessments, evaluations and protocols into client files and drafts Speech/Language/Communication proposals for review meetings.
Participation in the research of new technology for Speech Output Devices.
Maintains universal communication between Melmark staff related to student’s communication protocols.
Participates in the collaborative team model at Melmark, which will include all support services required of Melmark staff: student ratio support, support in data collection, support in classroom and group management and support in daily living skills when needed.
Participation in all required annual trainings.
All other reasonable duties as assigned by Supervisors.
