We are looking for a skilled and motivated Lead Machinist to oversee and execute the programming, setup, and operation of advanced CNC machinery. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and operating 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC mills and lathes, including a 5-axis Okuma Multus lathe and Okuma CNC mills. This role requires leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to producing high-quality parts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Programming and Setup: Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs for 3, 4, and 5- axis CNC mills and lathes, including the 5-axis Okuma Multus lathe, using CAD/CAM software (e.g., Bobcad-Cam, or similar).
  • Operation: Operate and monitor CNC machines to produce precision components, ensuring adherence to tight tolerances and quality standards.
  • Tooling and Maintenance: Select appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials for machining processes; perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on CNC equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Quality Control: Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, CMM) to ensure compliance with blueprints and specifications.
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve machining processes, reduce cycle times, and enhance efficiency.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of programs, setups, and production outputs; ensure proper documentation of all machining activities.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies, ensuring a safe and organized work environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a CNC machinist, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.

  • Technical Skills:
  • Expertise in CAD/CAM software for CNC programming.
  • Strong understanding of G-code and M-code programming.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in manufacturing, machining, or a related field is preferred.

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise and machinery.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Okuma control systems (e.g., OSP-P300).
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of additional CNC brands or multi-axis machining systems.
