Shift: 3rd Shift
Hours: 10:00pm to 6:00am (Monday - Friday) / Some Saturdays
Department: Production - Salaried Exempt
Summary
The Night Operations Manager oversees all operational activities during overnight hours, ensuring smooth, safe, and efficient business operations. This role is responsible for supervising night staff, coordinating workflows, resolving issues in real time, and maintaining compliance with company policies and safety standards. The Night Operations Manager serves as the primary decision-maker on duty during night shifts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
- Manage and supervise all overnight operations to ensure continuity of service.
- Lead, schedule, and support night shift employees, including performance monitoring
- and coaching.
- Ensure adherence to safety, security, and company policies and procedures.
- Coordinate handovers with second shift management to ensure clear communication
- and continuity.
- Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types,
- quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan
- department operations.
- Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing
- products.
- Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure
- production and quality of products meets specifications.
- Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing,
- and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
- Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and
- optimum utilization.
- Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers
- to ensure compliance with standards.
- Resolves worker grievances or submits unsettled grievances to Plant Manager for
- action.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and report recommendations to
- senior management.
- Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manages supervisors, shift leaders and employees in various production departments
- during the night shift hours with a focus on meeting production goals (KPIs). Is
- responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries
- out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and
- applicable laws. Responsibilities include training, coaching and performance feedback
- to night shift teams. Planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining
- employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Liaising with day shift
- managers and plant leadership to ensure consistent business performance.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience
- Proven track record in supervisory or management roles, managing teams, scheduling
- and task delegation.
- Bachelor's degree preferred (STEM, Business, Supply Chain), but equivalent experience
- can substitute. Three to eight+ years in relevant operations, with 2-4+ years in
- management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Other Qualifications
- Ability to lead autonomously without direct senior management presence. Strong
- leadership, initiative and problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills to hand off critical information to day shifts. Familiarity
- with Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, data analysis, root cause analysis and performance
- metrics
