Nursing Unit Manager Job Duties:
  • Monitors facility clinical systems to ensure quality resident care in accordance with all laws, regulations, and facility guidelines.
  • Provides and oversees high-quality nursing care in alignment with individualized care plans ordered by physicians.
  • Directs, develops, and supports RNs, LPNs, and CNAs to ensure consistent, compassionate, and efficient care delivery.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments of residents, revising care plans as needed based on changes in condition.
  • Collaborates with the ADON and DON to resolve concerns related to resident care, staff performance, or family communication.
  • Documents interventions, assessments, and resident/family education accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Conducts regular rounds to monitor resident conditions and nursing practices.
  • Administers medications and IV treatments in accordance with physician orders and facility policy.
  • Monitors resident progress, behaviors, vital signs, and response to treatment; reports findings to supervisors as needed.
  • Completes incident reports promptly and participates in follow-up as necessary.
  • Oversees prevention and monitoring of skin breakdown and pressure sores.
  • Performs and supervises a wide range of administrative and clinical nursing duties, including admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Places and monitors medication and refill orders; tracks narcotics and emergency kit inventory.
  • Provides oversight for staff scheduling, attendance, shift changes, and adherence to facility guidelines.
  • Delegates assignments and provides ongoing supervision, coaching, and recognition for RNs, LPNs, and CNAs.
  • Assists in the recruitment, selection, and orientation of nursing staff.
  • Promotes teamwork, communication, and a positive work culture within the nursing department.
  • Participates in the on-call rotation, including one evening per week and one weekend every 5th weekend to support continuity of care and leadership coverage.

Qualifications:

  • Current and valid LPN or RN license in the state.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Prior experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing setting preferred.
