Direct Support Professional

Job Overview

Duties

• Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using tools like Hoyer lifts when necessary
• Monitor residents' health by taking vital signs, observing patient conditions, and reporting changes promptly to healthcare teams
• Administer medications following care plans and HIPAA regulations to ensure safety and compliance
• Prepare nutritious meals aligned with dietary needs and assist residents during meal times to promote proper nutrition
• Support residents in engaging with community activities, social events, and recreational programs to foster social inclusion
• Maintain a clean and safe environment through regular cleaning tasks, laundry assistance, and adherence to infection control protocols
• Document care activities accurately in resident records, including progress notes, medication logs, and incident reports
• Provide emotional support and companionship to residents with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, autism spectrum disorder, or other developmental disabilities
• Operate medical equipment such as Hoyer lifts or other assistive devices safely during transfers or mobility assistance
• Follow all safety procedures including CPR/First Aid certification requirements to respond effectively in emergencies

Experience

• Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes or home & community care settings preferred
• Demonstrated ability to work with people with disabilities or special needs such as autism or dementia care
• Knowledge of patient observation techniques and vital signs monitoring essential for ensuring resident safety
• Experience in medication administration and following care plans accurately is highly valued
• Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to maintain confidentiality of resident information
• Previous caregiving experience involving heavy lifting or the use of assistive devices like Hoyer lifts is advantageous
• Strong communication skills combined with patience and empathy are critical for success in this role

Pay: $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week
