We are seeking an experienced
IT Project Manager
on behalf of our higher-education client in Redwood City to support enterprise-level technology initiatives across a large and complex university environment. This role is part of a collaborative PMO and is responsible for managing multiple large, technically complex IT projects spanning enterprise applications, SaaS implementations, infrastructure, integrations, data, and security. The ideal candidate is a confident leader with exceptional communication skills, strong technical understanding, and a proven track record of driving cross-functional teams toward successful, on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead multiple concurrent technical projects including vendor selection, SaaS implementations, application upgrades, development efforts, and IT infrastructure projects from discovery through delivery.
- Assemble, engage, and lead cross-functional teams across technical and business units.
- Develop, manage, and maintain complex project plans, schedules, budgets, risks, and resource allocations.
- Facilitate communication with sponsors, stakeholders, and decision-makers to ensure alignment and timely delivery.
- Identify, track, and resolve project issues, risks, and dependencies with diplomacy and sound judgment.
- Ensure adherence to project management best practices, SDLC processes, and quality standards.
- Apply strong analytical skills to evaluate project activities, data, and outcomes.
- Provide technical contributions (approximately 20 percent) related to integrations, infrastructure, system implementations, or related areas.
- Support continuous improvement within the PMO through documentation, process alignment, and best-practice adoption.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
and
8 to 10 years of project management experience
delivering complex IT projects of significant size and scope. - Highly effective written and verbal communication skills across diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage integration, scope, schedule, cost, quality, communications, risk, and procurement.
- Strong resilience, diplomacy, influence, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to balance customer expectations with project realities.
- Solid understanding of technical domains relevant to
enterprise IT.
Other Desired Skills
- Proven experience with
Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid methodologies. - Strong knowledge of project management tools and the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Experience developing detailed project plans with robust work breakdown structures (WBS).
- Experience in people, change, risk, and conflict management.
- Ability to motivate teams and drive consensus-oriented decision-making.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and facilitation capabilities.
- Ability to navigate complex issues and make well-informed decisions under pressure.
- Experience with
MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Visio), Smartsheet, ServiceNow Project Portfolio Manager (PPM), Zoom, and Slack. - Experience with enterprise applications such as
Oracle EBS, Oracle HCM, and PeopleSoft HR or Student
preferred. - Experience in IT infrastructure management, application integrations, and data integration across platforms.
- Knowledge of QA and testing practices.
- Understanding of web application architecture, application integration, technology tiers, and object-oriented concepts.
- PMP certification is required.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently performs desk-based computer tasks, sitting, and fine manipulation.
- Occasionally stands or walks and writes by hand.
- Rarely uses a telephone or lifts, carries, pushes, or pulls objects up to 10 pounds.
