JOB SUMMARY
This position is a specialized code compliance role focused on solid waste management within the Town of Sahuarita, where the incumbent performs the full range of compliance duties, including code interpretations, site visits, investigations, and public education under general supervision. The role requires solid knowledge of Sahuarita's solid waste management standards and regulations, with responsibilities ranging from basic to complex compliance issues within the Town's jurisdiction, though specific duties may vary based on assignment and departmental needs.

- Responds to and investigates potential Town of Sahuarita code violations related to solid waste management, including illegal dumping, improper container placement, and non-compliance with collection schedules; conducts site inspections within Sahuarita.
- Monitors various systems dedicated to the reporting of solid waste violations within Sahuarita, including citizen complaints and internal tracking systems.
- Reviews and interprets approved solid waste management plans and related ordinances specific to the Town of Sahuarita.
- Writes detailed reports and issues notices of violation related to solid waste infractions within Sahuarita, utilizing the most appropriate delivery method.
- Assists with maintaining cases and records management filing associated with solid waste code compliance matters specific to Sahuarita.
- Assists with the preparation of Hearing Officer cases and associated hearing records related to solid waste violations within the Town.
- Responds to internal and external inquiries related to the Town of Sahuarita's solid waste municipal code and regulations.
- Conducts public education and outreach regarding proper solid waste disposal and recycling practices within the Sahuarita community.
- Attends meetings and public functions regarding solid waste code compliance services within Sahuarita.
- Develops and maintains positive relations with solid waste service providers operating within Sahuarita, HOAs, other agencies, groups, and the public regarding solid waste issues within the Town.
- Prepares reports, letters, notices, memos, and other professionally written documents related to solid waste compliance within the Town of Sahuarita.
- Assists with division special projects related to solid waste management within Sahuarita.
- Performs related work as assigned, specifically related to solid waste code enforcement within the Town of Sahuarita.

- Knowledge of rules of evidence as they pertain to solid waste infractions within the Town
- Knowledge of Town of Sahuarita boundaries and solid waste service areas
- Knowledge of standard business software applications and computers
- Knowledge of solid waste permitting and collection processes specific to Sahuarita
- Knowledge of customer service principles
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, and local laws, codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations related to solid waste management within the Town of Sahuarita
- Knowledge of standard office equipment including the computer and programs relevant to the performance of applicable duties and responsibilities
- Skill in using computers and related software applications, including those specific to solid waste management within the Town's systems
- Skill in interpreting applicable Federal, state, and local laws, codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations related to solid waste within Sahuarita
- Skill in conducting investigative research related to solid waste violations within the Town
- Skill in reading and general comprehension of solid waste management plans and related documents specific to Sahuarita
- Skill in communication and interpersonal interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, solid waste service providers operating within Sahuarita, and other interested parties sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
- Skill in public education for the Sahuarita community
- Ability to work independently under general supervision
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple solid waste compliance cases simultaneously
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in applying solid waste regulations to various situations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's Degree;
- Two (2) years of experience in a related field; OR
- Any equivalent combination of Formal Education and Experience sufficient to perform the Essential Functions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Certifications related to solid waste management (e.g., SWANA certifications) or code enforcement (e.g., AACE certifications).
- In-depth knowledge of Arizona's environmental regulations and solid waste management practices.
- Experience in code enforcement, specifically related to solid waste management.
REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Driver's License required or ability to obtain an Arizona Driver's License within ten days of hire.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check prior to beginning employment with the Town.
