Job Overview
The Handrail Specialist is responsible for welding components in accordance with the shop drawings, fitters, or supervisor's instructions

Duties

  • Read shop drawings to determine specifications and weld requirements
  • Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes
  • Able to fabricate sloped rail or guardrail while maintaining proper dimensions
  • Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or sub-units, following blueprints and layout specifications, using fixtures, and hand tools
  • Locate and mark work piece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine welding shrinkage, and other component specifications
  • Ability to calculate using charts for bending pipe to specifications accounting for center of bend measurements and overall growth of material
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
  • Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedge or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
  • Monitor the burning and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material
  • Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits including proper use of PPE

Qualifications

  • Expert in MIG welding
  • 5 years of experience with fabrication of handrail or stair rail
  • Experience with pipe bending (Experience with an Ercolina Bender is a plus)
  • Pass a fitting and welding test
  • Washington Association of Building Officials (WABO) Certification
  • Welding certification or ability to pass certification test
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license

Physical Requirements

  • Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, twist, kneel, climb, and reach 8 hours per day (must be comfortable working in confined spaces)
  • Able to lift up-to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles
  • Able to use personal protective equipment
  • Able to work in outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat
  • Able to safely work near moving mechanical parts

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $ $33.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
