Founding Engineer, Product

Your role

You'd be the first engineering hire, working directly with the founder. Help us scale from 10,000 to 1 million users. You'll build and ship the product, and do whatever it takes to make it succeed

• Own features end-to-end — frontend, backend, AI integrations, model training. Things like: compatibility scorer, rich in-app messaging, profiles, dating coach
• Talk to users several times a week and turn what you learn into technical / product decisions
• Pick up whatever else needs doing, from growth to ops

About the company

The Relationship Company is building AI to help people meet and nurture the most important relationships in their lives, starting with their life partner.

In just six weeks, we've launched an AI matchmaker with retention, campus penetration, and match-to-meetup ratio that outpaces every major dating app.

We're led by a 2nd-time founder who's spent five years building matching systems, with experience from early LangChain and Stanford's Hazy Research. We recently raised a few million from elite investors including Elad Gil (early Airbnb/Stripe/Pinterest backer), Mark Pincus (Zynga founder, early FB backer), and Andy Chen (founded the KP Fellows program)

Location

We're located in Palo Alto, CA, working in-person 6 days per week. We will be moving to SF soon.

About you

• You've built and shipped products in
• You use AI coding tools aggressively (Cursor, Claude Code, etc.) or will learn fast
• Love working in a fast-moving startup environment
• Enjoy taking ownership of large, ambiguous projects and making sound decisions autonomously
• Value working with people who are kind, curious, and pragmatic
• You personally care about building meaningful relationships
