Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pre-Operative Nurse / Recovery Nurse to join our dynamic surgical team. In this vital role, you will prepare patients for surgery by conducting comprehensive assessments, ensuring all necessary documentation and protocols are in place, and providing compassionate patient education. Your expertise will help facilitate smooth surgical procedures, promote patient safety, and enhance overall perioperative care. Responsibilities
- Perform thorough preoperative assessments including vital signs, medical history, and physical examinations to evaluate patient readiness for surgery.
- Administer medications, injections, and IV infusions following strict aseptic techniques, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Prepare operating rooms by verifying equipment functionality, maintaining sterile fields, and ensuring all necessary supplies are available.
- Educate patients about the surgical process, post-operative care instructions, and answer any questions to reduce anxiety and promote understanding.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and hospital staff to coordinate patient care plans.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Monitor patients' vital signs pre-surgery and identify any signs of acute pain or complications requiring immediate attention or triage.
Skills
- Extensive experience with medical documentation
- Proficiency in administering injections, IV insertion, catheterization, and aseptic techniques.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and diagnostic evaluation processes relevant to perioperative care.
- Familiarity with surgical procedures including ophthalmology, cardiac catheterization, trauma medicine, and outpatient surgeries.
- Ability to perform physical examinations and assess patient condition effectively.
- Experience working with diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia care needs.
- Critical care experience such as ICU or Level I Trauma Center background is highly valued.
- Knowledge of infection control practices and ICD coding (ICD-9/10) for accurate documentation.
- Skilled in patient education related to pain management, post-op recovery, and discharge planning.
- Capable of working efficiently in high-pressure environments like emergency rooms or urgent care settings while maintaining attention to detail.
