Volunteer Coordinator
We are seeking a passionate and organized Volunteer Coordinator to join our team. This role is essential in building and maintaining strong relationships with volunteers, community partners, and supporters.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment and Retention
· Recruitment of volunteers (through community calendars, public speaking, and/or attending community meetings and events) for: animal enrichment, essential support, foster care, buildings & grounds maintenance, inventory of donations, and events
· Assist with conducting volunteer orientations that are informative, engaging, and interactive
· Coordinate and schedule volunteer groups for schools, corporate teams, and other community organizations
· Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages volunteer retention and satisfaction
· Communicate regularly with volunteers via email, Volunteer Mgmt Software, in person, and through Volunteer Facebook page
Community Outreach & Event Support
· Build partnerships with local organizations, schools, and businesses
· Coordinate volunteers for outreach pet promotions (Petco, Fleet Farm, Pets Supplies Plus, etc)
· Attend monthly Fundraising Committee meetings
· Coordinate volunteers for NAS events (Furry Flurry, Garden Party, etc)
· Assist in planning and executing educational and community events
Communication and Collaboration
· Work with staff to identify volunteer needs for special projects and events
· Collaborate with Shelter Manager to identify areas where volunteers can provide support and enhance shelter operations
· Work cooperatively with all staff and volunteers to promote the NAS mission, participating in team meetings as needed
Administrative Duties
· Track volunteer hours and generate reports monthly for the Executive Director
· Maintain a current and accurate database of volunteer information
· Contribute to social media content, website content (calendar), e-blasts, and newsletters as appropriate
· Ensure that all volunteer activities comply with shelter policies, procedures, safety guidelines and shelter mission
· Perform other duties as necessary (this is not an animal care position)
Qualifications and Skills
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Valid Wisconsin driver's license and reliable transportation
· Passion for nonprofit work and community engagement
· Experience working with volunteers or in outreach roles
· Proficient in computer systems and learning new software
· Willing to work occasional weekend or evening for a scheduled event
· Demonstrate mature judgement and the ability to interact professionally and courteously with all stakeholders
· Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
· Outstanding communication skills and superior customer service skills (internal and external)
· Ability to function well as a team member, and independently
· Ability to provide constructive criticism while also offering beneficial information
· Ability to work in the presence of animals
Reports to: Executive Director
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18 per hour up to 25 hours/week, flexible schedule
