Position Overview

The Stella-Jones team is seeking a
Procurement Forester / Railroad Tie Buyer
for Bangor, Wisconsin and the surrounding wood basket. This Buyer role is responsible for providing raw material to our Bangor railway ties manufacturing facility to meet production requirements and ensuring a continuous monthly supply of railroad ties to accomplish established annual production requirements. The role involves communicating and travelling to vendors to inspect material, negotiate price, and ensure quality meets our needs.

This is a
remote, home-based position to be based in the Bangor, Wisconsin area
, as there will be significant travel as part of this role within the 3-state WI, MN, & Iowa region as well as visits to our Bangor plant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides a continuous monthly supply of railroad ties to accomplish established annual production requirements.
  • Purchases and balances raw materials inventory to meet required production levels.
  • Purchases crossing timbers to ensure inventory is up to desired levels
  • Maintains and develops new relationships with sellers of raw materials.
  • May contact carriers to arrange transportation of purchases.
  • Ensures proper quantity and quality of materials received to locations.
  • Maintains contacts in the industry and related areas to develop information regarding future tie production potentials and market information on ties, , and other products. Reports findings on a regular basis.
  • Participates and contribute to company safety program.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Forestry plus one year of Forestry experience
    –or–
    High School diploma plus five years of Forestry experience, including timber cruising, procurement, buying, or selling
  • License/Certification: Driver's License
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Solid decision making and strong analytical skills
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
