The Department of Global Health at George Washington University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate focusing on health disparities with Dr. Ramin Asgary's research group. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research ( OVPR ) supports the research infrastructure and facilitates several institutional research initiatives . Postdocs will design, organize and conduct specialized and advanced experiments using established scientific protocols, troubleshoot and design new protocols, summarize findings and publish results in research journals, under the general supervision of a faculty member. In some cases, postdocs will assume general responsibility for general scientific operations in the lab, and/or provide supervision and guidance to laboratory staff, trainees, and other researchers. Additionally, as a training component, the postdoc will play a role in planning and conducting research. In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, the postdoc will participate in analyzing and interpreting data, publishing the results, and representing the research team at conferences and meetings. There will be opportunities for independent research project development related to findings of the current trials or other new initiatives. Responsibilities Includes: Administrative components of the clinical trials including: Coordination between the PI and collaborators and their institutions and the project and data collection site Communicating with and organizing team and stakeholder meetings (study staff, project site's staff, and Data Safety Monitoring Board) Communication with and fulfillment of all required legal and institutional regulations at GWU , NYU , NIH , ADA in regard to the performance of trials Overseeing purchasing and maintenance of research equipment and payments Record keeping for all study's components Supervision of lower-level study team members including research assistants and coordination with staff at the study sites Coordination with the SMS texting companies Providing the overall study coordination, and all matters related to administrative aspects and logistical support of the trials Development of SMS text strategy platform, content and repository of messages, and overseeing and monitoring SMS text platform activities and delivery Overseeing recruitment and enrolment by research assistants Submission of revisions to the IRB protocol and communicating with the respective GWU' IRB for all study related matters Developing communication materials and standard operating manuals related to research projects Development and implementation of training materials for research assistants Supporting data management and assisting biostatistician in development and implementation of all study tools including recruitment tools, randomization, and data collection tools Preparing and posting of research data in databases and assisting in manuscript preparation, publishing and presentation of data Other training and analytic responsibilities include: Primary and secondary data analysis using software such as SAS , STATA , or R Plan and conduct independent research; write and publish peer-reviewed manuscripts Prepare and submit grant proposals Work collaboratively with collaborators from diverse disciplines including service providers and policy makers The postdoc is expected to work well as part of multi-disciplinary teams and have enthusiasm for conducting research at the nexus of medical care, public health, and policy A Postdoctoral Associate: holds a PhD or equivalent degree; develops skills by participating in scholarly projects that are actively mentored by a member of the university faculty; receives financial support in the form of a salary that is typically funded by grants, contracts or departmental funds secured by a faculty mentor; and has a limited term of up to five years at GW. In collaboration with experienced researchers, this role will participate in the planning and conduction of discovery research, data analysis and interpretation, preparation of materials for publication, presentations at conferences and meetings, and may develop new theories and methodologies. This role can expect timely advice as to research directions and career planning for a future independent career. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Special Instructions to the Applicant: Appointments are limited-term and are designed for those who have recently received a doctorate. Appointments are made to academic departments with the approval of the department head and may require senior officer approval. Appointments are usually for not less than one term and are normally not renewed beyond a total of five years. This appointment is not intended for long-term, indefinite, or career appointments.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates will hold a Doctoral degree or comparable doctoral degree in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Solid experience in conducting research activities in clinical settings or involving human subjects and health disparities Experience in clinical trials is highly desired Experience in healthcare of the underserved populations is a plus but not necessary Solid experience with IRB Strong experience with data collection and data management
Work Schedule
M-F 9am-5pm; as needed.
