Position Summary
Provides safe, expedient, cost-effective Outpatient Scheduling services. As a member of a team of healthcare professionals, a PSC is responsible for the scheduling of Outpatient procedures and appointments. PSCs behave in a manner consistent with the standards and ethics of ECU Health. PSCs are also responsible for ensuring a positive first impression by using professional communication, clear enunciation and by greeting all callers with a smile and genuine attitude.
Responsibilities
Maintains professional communication with physicians, department staff, ancillary staff, patients, and referring offices.
Accomplishes tasks via telephone and facsimile communication.
Ability to place the patient in the most appropriate appointment slot on the departments schedule.
Ensures patients and/or referring offices are aware of patient appointments.
Answers or refers any questions patients and/or referring offices may have.
Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
Responsible for maintaining department schedules.
Cancel and no-show patient appointments when appropriate.
Communicate with providers and necessary staff of any schedule changes or updates.
Reports updates, changes, and other significant information in staff meetings and safety huddles when necessary.
Coordinates printing and faxing of various schedules for use by designated staff.
Prepares statistical reports for use by Management.
Obtain Demographic, Financial, and Clinical data from patients and/or referring offices.
Update patient information when appropriate.
File appropriate insurance(s) and obtain proper authorizations and precertification as necessary.
Inform patient and/or referring office of any co-payments or payments required by the patient.
Remind patients and referring offices of any special instructions prior to the patients appointment or procedure.
Document in designated areas when appropriate.
Resolution of registration work queue items.
Greets patients and visitors to determine service needs.
Coordinate care with the appropriate clinical staff to ensure that the patient is scheduled for the appropriate appointment/procedure.
Coordinate with Foreign Language Interpreters as necessary.
Document special needs in the scheduling system.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
High School, GED, or higher education or 5 years of relevant experience is required- or higher.
Pay Range
$ $23.78

Shift Expectations: 1st Shift: Monday through Thursday 7:30 to 4pm

The 21-bed facility is designed to meet the needs of the coastal community, whose year-round population of approximately 35,000 swells to about 350,000 in the summer season.
