Summary/Objective
The Floor Technician is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary floor surfaces throughout Monroe County Hospital in accordance with hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to a Critical Access Hospital (CAH).
Essential Functions
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential function.
- Perform routine and scheduled floor care activities, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, stripping, and buffing floors in assigned areas.
- Maintain required levels of cleanliness and appearance for patient care, clinical, and non-clinical areas in compliance with hospital standards.
- Operate floor care equipment safely and correctly, including buffers, scrubbers, and wet vacuums.
- Use approved cleaning chemicals and supplies in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS), infection prevention guidelines, and hospital procedures.
- Identify and report maintenance issues, spills, or safety hazards (e.g., wet floors, damaged surfaces) promptly.
- Follow infection prevention and control practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Perform terminal and periodic cleaning as scheduled or assigned.
- Maintain storage areas, equipment, and supplies in a clean and orderly manner.
- Document work as required and communicate effectively with Environmental Services leadership.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital information at all times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, chemicals, airborne particles, and some mechanical equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of patient conditions and elements. The noise level is moderate to quiet.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
This position is very active and requires standing, pulling, pushing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The employee will be required to wear PPE while completing certain tasks/job duties.
Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work
This is a part-time position in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and weekend work during inclement weather will be required; working approximately hours each week to maintain part-time status.
Travel
No travel is expected for this position.
Required Education And Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required. Candidates who do not currently meet this requirement may be hired with the expectation that the diploma/GED must be obtained within one (1) year of the hire date as a condition of continued employment.
- Must complete hospital required trainings within 90 days
Preferred Education And Experience
- Health care industry experience.
- Knowledge of hospital-specific floor care techniques and cleaning standards.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
