Job Description
CMDC is has an open position for a Structural Engineer our office in Saskatoon, SK in the position of Masonry Design Engineer. An opportunity exists to work within the leading national technical authority for masonry construction, design, education, and codes/standards development. We are a contractor funded, and focused, association with members in all 10 provinces and with 8 offices. CMDC offers employees technically challenging, cutting edge and field defining work that will have direct and immediate impacts to the masonry industry. Your Responsibilities
- To support and maintain regular communications with members of SaskMasonry (SKM), provide technical advice, engage in public speaking, give presentations, and overall build relationships with local contractor, construction, and designer communities.
This will also include collaborating and providing industry support for research and educational initiatives at the University of Saskatchewan within the Saskatchewan Centre for Masonry Design (SCMD), lobbying the use of masonry construction to local public and private stakeholders, and providing local educational seminars for designers on masonry.
- To work in-person within the SKM office to ensure efficient day-to-day functions of SKM.
This will include working with the SKM office administrator to plan local association activities such golf tournaments, design awards, association meetings, and develop creative marketing strategies to highlight the benefits of masonry construction.
- To assist our team of engineers across Canada in providing technical assistance to engineers, architects, and mason contractors related to the design and construction of masonry structures.
This will include extensive technical writing, communicating complex concepts over the phone or email, and working to mitigate conflicts between different parties within construction projects.
- To work independently and collaboratively as required within broader CMDC national projects as they present themselves.
This may include examples such as: assisting with codes and standards development, assisting with the development of Masonry Analysis Structures Software (MASS), technical writing and review, assisting with seminars and educational courses, attending association meetings, conferences, etc., developing and running educational seminars .
The Skills and Experience we are Seeking
Completion of a Bachelor of Engineering degree in civil, structural, or related fields
A post-graduate degree and/or completion of courses related to masonry materials or design are preferred
Work experience with masonry or in construction/inspection is preferred
Registration as an EIT or holding a Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.) in the Province of Saskatchewan is required
Ability to work effectively in both independent and team environments
Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
Excellent oral and written English communication skills
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office
Experience with AutoCAD, any finite element or structural analysis software (RAM Suite SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD, S-Frame, etc.) or WordPress/webpage development are considered assets
Hands on experience such as work in construction, applied research, material testing are considered assets
Valid Driver's licence and an ability and eagerness to go onto construction sites and meet with contractors, masons, site engineers, etc.
About the Job
In-person work in a small office environment located at 701 Broadway Avenue, Saskatoon, SK
Periodic travel to Regina (approximately 10 times a year)
Permanent position, 37.5 hours per week

About CMDC
The primary responsibility of Canada Masonry Design Centre is to encourage the effective use of masonry through research, education, and technical support. Canada Masonry Design Centre is unique in its mandate by providing services to its contractor members in addition to supporting the external design community. CMDC is an association created and funded by its for-profit masonry contractor members in an effort to bridge the gap between the design community and the masonry construction industry. Support offered by CMDC includes providing design advice, problem solving on job sites, educational seminars both for contractors and designers, development of design aids such as a masonry structural design software, textbooks for students and professionals as well as university professor workshops and instructional packages. Canada Masonry Design Centre is also a major participant in building code and CSA Standards development.
CMDC is unique in that it acts as a conduit for information dissemination at many levels for its member contractors' initiatives. These include apprenticeship training, research at universities and colleges, codes and standards development, design aids, education and seminars and direct technical support to designers and contractors.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
