Job Overview
We are seeking a professional and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional customer service while managing administrative tasks efficiently. This role requires strong knowledge of medical office procedures, EMR systems, and healthcare documentation, ensuring smooth clinic operations and accurate patient records. Experience with medical billing, coding, and insurance verification is highly valued to support the delivery of quality care and administrative support within a busy medical practice.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and professionally, managing front desk operations with excellent phone etiquette and multi-line phone system handling
- Schedule patient appointments using EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, and other EHR platforms
- Verify insurance coverage and process insurance claims accurately, including Medicare and Medicaid billing procedures
- Collect payments and perform medical collections while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Maintain accurate medical records by reviewing documentation for completeness and correctness
- Assist with patient intake processes, including data entry and documentation review
- Manage patient information updates, appointment confirmations, and follow-up communications
- Support medical office management tasks such as filing, document organization, and maintaining health information management standards
- Collaborate with clinical staff to facilitate care plans and ensure proper documentation of CPT codes, ICD-9/10 codes, and other coding requirements
- Perform general clerical duties including typing reports, data entry (10 key typing), and using Microsoft Office applications
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Medical Receptionist or in a similar medical administrative support role within a clinic or healthcare setting
- Strong knowledge of EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or similar platforms
- Familiarity with medical billing procedures including CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), ICD coding standards, and insurance verification processes
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality and data security
- Excellent communication skills with professional phone etiquette and bilingual abilities preferred for diverse patient populations
- Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and health information management software
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Prior clinic or dental office experience is highly desirable; experience with dental terminology is a plus
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to review documentation thoroughly and manage patient records accurately
