Job Description Job Title: Gen Application Modernisation and Conversion Consultant Location: Hybrid, mix of office work, client sites and home working   Role Purpose We are seeking a technically skilled Gen Application Modernisation and Conversion Consultant to play a central role in migrating enterprise applications away from the Broadcom Gen technology. This role is hands-on, working directly with our custom Metatech MigrationWorks automation tooling to analyse, convert, and validate application components while applying technical fixes and enhancements where required. The consultant will also contribute to the evolution of our automation tooling, helping improve accuracy, coverage, and efficiency across a wide range of migration scenarios. Successful project outcomes may include:  - Converting Gen applications into standard native COBOL for CICS, IMS-DC, and DB2 on z/OS.  - Re-architecting and converting Gen applications into modern distributed platforms including Java/Spring Boot, .NET, Angular, and/or cloud-native environments. Alongside technical delivery, the role also involves defining how different application elements (e.g. transactions, database access, batch jobs, user interfaces, components) are migrated, often in a phased approach that balances risk and client readiness. Some engagement with end-clients (and/or Systems Integrators) is expected (to provide handover delivery updates and provide support during test phases) but the primary focus is technical delivery and continuous improvement of conversion processes and tools. Key Responsibilities Perform detailed analysis / assessment of Gen applications. Define migration approaches for different application elements, ensuring consistency and clarity (e.g. database access, action diagrams, online transactions, batch jobs, UIs). Support and implement phased migration strategies. Execute migration projects using custom Metatech MigrationWorks automation tooling, applying technical fixes where required. Enhance and extend automation tooling to improve accuracy, coverage and performance. Deliver migrations to:  Standard native COBOL for CICS, IMS-DC and DB2. Modern distributed stacks (including native Java, .NET, Spring Boot, Angular, and cloud). Validate converted applications, ensuring functional equivalence, performance and maintainability. Document migration patterns, processes and standards for reuse on future projects. Work with the Principal Solutions Architect to shape migration strategies and delivery roadmaps. Provide technical pre-sales input into TXP end-client Proposals and Statements of Work. Engage with end-client stakeholders at key stages to explain migration approaches and results. Stay current with emerging frameworks, tools and practices relevant to Gen application conversion and modernisation.  Skills and Experience  Deep technical knowledge of Gen application development, including component-based development (CBD), transaction processing, batch processing, relational database access, performance tuning and UI design and implementation. Strong experience in application migration, conversion or re-platforming. Hands-on expertise in COBOL for CICS, IMS-DC and DB2. Familiarity with modern distributed platforms (including Java, .NET, Spring Boot, Angular, cloud). Practical experience with automation tooling (development, configuration or enhancement). Strong problem-solving and debugging skills. Ability to define migration patterns for application elements and deliver them in a phased approach. Experience with mainframe tooling such as ISPF, SCLM, SPUFI and JCL would be advantageous. Some experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps or similar) would be beneficial. Good communication skills, with the ability to engage with end-clients and/or systems integrators on technical matters when required. Collaborative working style, focused on delivery and continuous improvement.  Education Degree or equivalent   Benefits: • 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). • An additional day of paid leave for your birthday (or Christmas eve). • Salary sacrifice, matched employer contributed pension (4%). • Life assurance (3x). • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). • Private medical insurance through our partner Aviva. • Cycle to work scheme. • Corporate eye-care vouchers. • Access to an independent financial advisor. • 2 x social value days per year to give back to local communities.   Grow with us: Work on exciting new projects.
