As a standalone business, Vybond is poised to strengthen its leadership in pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes, delivering innovative solutions to industrial and specialty markets worldwide. Headquartered in Franklin, KY, with facilities in Riverhead, NY, and Bristol, RI, Vybond Group, Inc. manufactures specialty foil, film, and duct tapes and adhesives. With over 1,500 specialty SKUs spanning 500+ product families, Vybond serves 1,500+ customers across the HVAC, building and construction, industrial, retail, medical, aerospace, automotive, and other specialty industries.

Job Summary: The Slitter Operator's primary function is to ensure that coated Logs/master rolls are slit according to customer specifications and that quality issues are identified and reported. Slitter Operator will ensure that all Slitting Machines are maintained and run at optimal production requirements with limited downtime. This position requires at least 6 months previous experience and/or trainingto acquire an overall understanding and basic performance requirements to run the equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Comply with all job related ISO quality procedures and customer specifications
  • Prior to loading the machine, review the work order (i.e instructions, material requirements, process notes as applicable) and visually confirm that the proper Log/Master rolls have been prepared and staged
  • Prior to slitting material, ensure that machine has been properly set to meet width, length, trim, and quantity product specifications
  • Prior to slitting any material, ensure that all rollers are cleaned and free of any contaminating residue
  • With hoist, assistance, or no assistance (log orders only), load prepared shafts for new cut
  • Using the correct lifting method, load the log/master roll
  • Using the correct lifting method, unload and store roll shafts
  • Prepare and set slitter blades properly and lubricate as necessary to minimize wear.
  • Operate the controls to load, splice, remove defective material (previously flagged), and unload machine.
  • Cut and splice material throughout the run as necessary
  • Troubleshoot and resolve web and quality problems
  • Report material issues/defects and/or equipment issues to respective Supervisor
  • Pack finished goods
  • Perform other duties as required and directed

General Duties & Inventory

  • Adhere to inventory procedures
  • Maintain any inventory and production data through use of scan gun and/or written log and/or computer based inventory control system
  • Complete necessary daily paperwork and required production reports

  • Teamwork is essential to this position and continued employment. Employee must exercise excellent communication skills and interpersonal behavior at all times to avoid conflicts, to produce a cost-efficient and good quality product and to ensure safe and respectful working environment.
  • Operate to the highest level of safety while on the premises; is aware of all safety procedures and takes appropriate safety measures for this equipment. Wear PPE where required in plant building, report all safety related issues and incidences, and follow all safety policies & procedures.
  • Shifts are usually fixed. Employee may be required to back-fill when a co-worker is on leave or absent.
  • Maintain high standards in housekeeping throughout work area and assist as required in other areas of the facility and grounds. Housekeeping includes thoroughly organizing and cleaning of work area and equipment. Ensure spills or slick areas are promptly cleaned up. Remove and properly discard or store unused or unnecessary materials, scrap, machine parts, garbage, etc. from work areas. Adhere to manufacturers SDS requirements for product handling, storage, and disposal as applicable.
  • Abide by all company policies and procedures.
  • Arrive promptly for all required company meetings.

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing - Employee will work in a manufacturing/warehouse setting working on or around heavy and hazardous equipment for duration of shift (minimum 8 hours up to 12 hours). Temperature will fluctuate with the weather. Direct or indirect exposure to solvents, chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, and other environmental conditions may be encountered. Applicable PPE is required.
  • Worker must be able to grip and use sharp blades for cutting and splicing material
  • Work schedule and shift times could change based on the needs of the business
  • Minimum break periods are two 15-minute per day and one 30-minute lunch break
