Electrical Assembler (Full-Time, 1st Shift)
Location: Rockford, IL
Pay: $17–$30 per hour, DOE
Position Summary
We are seeking an Electrical Assembler to support full-cycle electrical assembly for advanced industrial machinery. This role works hands-on in the assembly shop, building, wiring, and testing complex systems. Depending on experience level (Trainee, Intermediate, or Senior), responsibilities range from guided training to independently performing advanced wiring, diagnostics, and machine startup support.
This position requires a solid understanding of electrical principles, the ability to interpret schematics, strong attention to detail, and safe work practices. Travel (up to 30%), overtime, and shift flexibility may be required based on production needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, install, and wire electrical components, control panels, motors, and electronic devices on CNC machinery following schematics and assembly drawings.
- Route and terminate cables including motor power, encoders, ethernet, I/O, circuit breakers, computers, cameras, and relays.
- Perform continuity checks, verify I/O circuits, and ensure correct grounding and phasing of incoming power.
- Utilize electrical tools such as multimeters, phase meters, crimpers, soldering irons, knockout punches, and heat guns.
- Install electrical enclosures, I/O racks, ductways, brackets, and wireways (including drilling and tapping when required).
- Interpret and cross-reference schematics, part lists, and BOMs.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including checklists, schematic markups, and release forms.
- Collaborate with mechanics and engineers during system integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Safely operate forklifts, scissor lifts, ladders, and man lifts for elevated or overhead tasks.
Required Skills & Experience
- Ability to read and interpret electrical prints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Ability to use a multimeter to verify continuity and basic diagnostics.
- Understanding of electrical and electronic theory (AC/DC systems, single- and three-phase power, grounding principles, etc.).
- Experience using electrical diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, megohmmeters, data loggers, and feedback setup tools.
- Ability to assist with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assembly.
- Strong computer and basic math skills for documentation.
- Excellent problem-solving, planning, and teamwork abilities.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on shop environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Technical certification in electrical systems or industrial technology (preferred).
- Previous experience in electrical assembly for machine tools or industrial equipment.
- Ability to travel nationally or internationally up to 30%.
- Willingness to work overtime or additional shifts when needed.
