Key Responsibilities
- Leadership: Lead and guide work crews in performing a range of maintenance tasks, from street repairs to park facility upkeep. Provide technical direction and training to less experienced staff.
- Safety & Inspections: Perform accident investigations related to injuries associated with City infrastructure, inspect contractors' work, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Operational Excellence: Operate and direct the use of medium and heavy-duty motorized equipment, manage vendor relationships, and oversee the maintenance and improvement of City infrastructure.
- Emergency Response: Respond to emergency calls, take appropriate action, and assist other crews as needed to maintain public safety and infrastructure integrity.
- Administrative Duties: Handle injury claims, participate in depositions, provide testimony, prepare performance evaluations, and manage records and reports related to maintenance activities.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of construction, repair, and maintenance techniques, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to lead, plan, and coordinate the work of assigned staff, ensuring high-quality outcomes.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations, traffic control procedures, and USA Dig-Alert practices.
- Proficiency in using modern business tools, including computers and relevant software.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on customer service.

Employees work outdoors in various conditions, including exposure to loud noise, extreme temperatures, inclement weather, road hazards, and hazardous substances like chemicals and fumes. They may also face mechanical or electrical dangers and work in confined spaces. Interaction with upset staff or the public while enforcing policies is possible. Additionally, employees may need to work extended hours, rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
