Overview
Under the general supervision of the Financial Program Supervisor, this position is responsible for the operation of the Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility (MSDF) receiving and shipping dock and the maintenance of warehoused items. Duties include the receiving of materials purchased for the MSDF Canteen and attendant bookkeeping functions; shipping of materials through common carrier and through the MSDF delivery system to all intra-institution users, store received materials properly and maintain a neat, clean and safe warehouse environment.

The Inventory Control Coordinator shall comply with the Department's administrative rules and the agency's policies and procedures including those related to the Department's overall Reentry philosophy of using evidence-based strategies, practices and programs which target an inmate's individual criminogenic needs and risk level.

GOALS AND WORKER ACTIVITIES:

Receive materials for the MSDF, Health Services Unit (HSU), and canteen, checking freight bills/delivery slips, invoices for correct number of items and inspecting all food for quality. Includes handling hazardous materials.

Fill out receiving reports and sign to confirm that all products received are of correct quantity and quality as printed on packing slip/invoice.

Maintains purchase order files, creates and maintains receiving files and inputs receiving data into computer program.

Store received items in appropriate environment, assuring correct stock rotation practices.

In consultation with the store supervisor, recommend and carry out changes in stocking locations and procedures as necessary.

Obtain authorization, prepare appropriate paperwork and prepare items for return to vendors via common carrier.

On a daily basis, receive and audit requisitions from all Institution departments, report irregularities to Store Supervisor.

Prepare requisitioned items for shipment, considering environmental requirements for assembling and transporting. Secure proper transport and delivery.

Prepare filled requisitions for data entry and input into computer program.

Transport materials for MSDF, Badger State Industries (BSI) and canteen, into the institution. Also, deliver to and/or pick up from other state institutions and vendors.

Responsible for receiving, recording and signing for offender, MSDF, HSU, BSI and canteen packages received through UPS, RPS and other common carriers.

Handle forms including distribution, maintaining a working supply and order as needed.

Maintenance and Control of High Risk Security Environment, Including the Supervision of Offender Workers Assigned to Stores.

Assist stores security staff in maintaining security within the warehouse at all times and monitoring offender worker activities for conformance with institutional policies and procedures, administrative rules, and DOC Internal Management Procedures.

Control access to all stock including supplies, tools, and contraband items that may pose a security risk in offenders' possession.

Maintain and adhere to contingency plans, responding appropriately as directed by the Stores Supervisor during emergency situations such as lockdown, strikes, riots, etc.

Determine security or safety risk of products considering such factors as flammability, or potentially harmful effects of products.

Assure that all tools are accounted for in accordance with institution tool control policy.

Maintain adequate key control in accordance with institution security policies and procedures.

Conduct inspections of premises.

Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and make available to institution staff in emergency situation.

Ensure all supplies and products comply with guidelines for infectious control, HIV/AIDS, etc.

In the absence of the Storekeeper assume all duties related to the operation of canteen.

Inspect Warehouse on a continuing basis to assure appropriate stock levels, reporting irregularities to the store supervisor for appropriate action.

Assist in taking all inventories as directed.

Accept and complete special assignments as directed by Store Supervisor.

Knowledge. Skills and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of handling food property including kinds, cuts, and terminology used with meats, seafood and produce.

  2. Knowledge of storeroom methods and procedures.

  3. Knowledge of inventory control systems and procedures.

  4. Knowledge of facility security policies and procedures.

  5. Knowledge of key control policies and procedures

  6. Knowledge of health and safety requirements

  7. Knowledge of proper handling and storing of hazardous materials including Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and containment of spills.

  8. Ability to operate computers and other office equipment.

  9. Knowledge of basic arithmetic.

  10. Ability to pack goods properly for shipment.

  11. Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  12. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  13. Ability to direct the work of others.

Special Requirements

  1. Must possess a valid Driver's License.

  2. Operate a 21,000 lb. truck and be able to back in and/or out of loading docks and area.

  3. Must meet the standards for driving a vehicle under the DOA Fleet Policy

  4. Ability to climb on and off of truck beds.

  5. Operate pallet jacks, forklifts and other equipment.

Pay: From $19.05 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
