Role Overview
The Operations Tax Manager is a member of our Finance & Corporate Services team (Corporate Tax group) and reports to the Director, Corporate Tax.
They will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on Canadian and U.S. tax slip reporting. This individual will provide technical guidance, regulatory insights, and consultative support to the Fidelity Investment Canada ("FIC") operations team, ensuring compliance with evolving tax laws and industry standards. While this role does not carry ultimate responsibility for tax reporting execution, it is critical in shaping processes, advising on complex issues, and maintaining regulatory awareness.
What You Will Do:
- Act as the primary tax technical resource for FIC's operations and Canadian and U.S. tax slips reporting, including but not limited to:
- T5/R3, T3/R16, T5013/R15, T5008/R18, NR4, T4RSP/T4RIF/T4A/R2, T4FHSA/R32, T4A/R2RSP contribution receipts, estate related tax slips, 1099, 1042 & 1042-S
- Withholding tax on registered plans and fund distributions to investors
- Ad hoc tax queries
- Upon engagement by the Operations team , provide consultative support to operational teams on interpretation and application of tax law and regulations, including advise on complex scenarios, corrections and exceptions handling
- Monitor and interpret changes in Canadian and U.S. tax legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry practices as they relate to FIC's operations/tax reporting
- Communicate concise regulatory updates, implications, and guidance to stakeholders through notices and documentation
- Identify potential tax-related risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Advise on internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with CRA, MRQ, IRS, and other relevant tax authorities.
- Support internal/external tax audits by providing technical expertise and guidance on remediation of findings
- Upon engagement by Client Services team, participate in projects related to tax matters and contribute technical insights
- Recommend process improvements to reduce complexity, improve accuracy, and ensure regulatory compliance
- On an as needed basis, support various aspects of the corporate tax function including FIC T4A-NR and NR4 reporting
What We're Looking For:
- More than 5 years of working experience in an operational area with a focus on financial services industry
- University degree in Accounting, Finance or Master of Taxation (or related field) or equivalent work experience.
- Possess or be working towards a CPA designation is an asset
- Enrollment of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Courses or Master of Taxation program is an asset.
- Proficiency in tax preparation software and Microsoft Excel.

- Excellent knowledge of Canadian and US tax reporting / filing processes
- Good knowledge of the Canadian and global investment industry
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a pragmatic approach
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- You demonstrate strong tax technical knowledge, tax research, analytical skills
- You have strong organizational, project management, and critical thinking skills.
- You have strong leadership skills, are proactive and take ownership of your work
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
- You are a quick learner, self-motivated, able to work independently, curious in asking good questions, "eager to learn" attitude and ability to adapt well to changes.
- Strong proficiency with excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, net present value calculations, complicated formulas including the building of financial models), and Powerpoint

For this role, your total rewards include:
- Base Salary : A competitive annual range of $120,000 to $135,000 , based on your experience and qualifications.
- Performance Bonus : Eligible for a discretionary bonus that rewards your contributions and results.
- RRSP Contribution : After 6 months of employment, we invest in your future with an RRSP contribution—no employee matching required.
