City Build Recruitment is partnering with our client, a leading architectural firm, to recruit a Senior Designer with extensive experience in commercial and retail projects. This role is ideal for a self-motivated professional who can manage complex, multidisciplinary projects, lead staff, and collaborate closely with partners, clients, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ).

The Senior Designer will oversee design development, production, and coordination across all project phases, including municipal approvals, working drawings, and contract administration.

• Professional degree in Architecture, Architectural Science, or Architectural Technology

• OAA membership or eligibility is an asset

• 15 years of professional experience

• Strong knowledge of current Building Codes, standards, construction methods, detailing, and building science

• Experience with large regional shopping centres, including expansions, renovations to common mall areas, and conversions of vacant department stores

• Industrial or large-format project experience is an asset

• Proven ability to run complex multidisciplinary projects, engaging directly with clients and AHJ, with partner oversight

• Strong technical proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite

• Thrive in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills

• Oversee and guide staff in preparing working drawings, providing markups and sketches

• Manage all phases of projects: predesign, design, municipal approvals, working drawings, and contract administration

• Collaborate with partners to prepare fees, manage resources, deliverables, and project schedules

• Coordinate within the project team and with consultants

• Prepare design sketches and oversee staff 3D models and renderings

• Operate independently and maintain high standards with minimal supervision
