About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Operations Supervisor to oversee day-to-day field operations for our waste hauling services. This individual will be responsible for ensuring operational efficiency, safety compliance, exceptional service delivery, driver leadership, and fleet readiness. The Operations Supervisor will play a key leadership role, reporting directly to the Operations Manager, and will be accountable for managing drivers, maintaining high service standards, and supporting business performance initiatives in the local market.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Leadership
- Oversee all day-to-day field operations to ensure timely route completion, service reliability, and excellent driver performance.
- Support the Operations Manager in ensuring success of all lines of business, including roll-off, commercial front-end load, and residential services, by driving safe, efficient, and reliable operations across each.
- Supervise, schedule, and coach a team of drivers, ensuring proper staffing, training, and accountability through active field leadership.
- Support the Operations Manager in achieving KPIs related to safety, service quality, and operational efficiency.
- Conduct regular ride-alongs, route observations, and field audits to identify improvement opportunities and enforce standards.
- Promote a strong safety culture by enforcing DOT, OSHA, and internal safety policies through regular safety meetings, compliance training, and incident investigations.
- Monitor driver hours, inspections, and vehicle condition reports to ensure full regulatory compliance and operational readiness.
- Support timely resolution of safety incidents, violations, and near misses to reduce risk and liability.
- Partner with fleet maintenance staff and vendors to minimize downtime, ensure preventive maintenance, and keep vehicles safe and compliant.
- Support the Operations Manager in tracking vehicle availability, maintenance costs, and repair history to ensure asset readiness and cost control.
- Support managing vehicle compliance, including registrations, inspections, emissions, and documentation.
- Maintain high standards of fleet cleanliness, operational safety, and reliability.
- Lead team huddles, performance reviews, and planning sessions to align frontline execution with company goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
People & Culture
- Directly supervise and coach drivers and frontline staff, ensuring accountability, teamwork, and professional growth.
- Lead recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training of drivers to build and maintain a skilled and reliable workforce.
- Exercise direct responsibility for driver discipline, corrective action, and termination when required.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and customer-first service.
- Promote a strong culture of safety and compliance through regular safety meetings, ride-alongs, and active field presence.
- Coach, mentor, and develop employees to ensure high performance and retention.
Customer & Community Relations
- Maintain open communication with municipal and public customers, ensuring compliance with their reporting requirements, service standards, and contract obligations, while attending government or community meetings as needed to represent the company professionally.
- Represent Delta Waste Solutions as a local face of the company and primary point of contact for customers.
- Handle customer issues with urgency and professionalism, ensuring resolution and satisfaction.
- Represent the company at local industry events, municipal meetings, and in community engagement efforts.
Supporting Strategic Initiatives
- Provide operational support for larger strategic initiatives led by the Operations Manager, including service expansions, new project launches, and cross-functional coordination.
- Assist with data collection, reporting, and execution of Operations Manager directives to ensure alignment between field operations and company strategy.
- Step into a leadership role as needed to ensure continuity of operations during Operations Manager absence or delegation.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in operations management, preferably in the waste industry.
- Class A or Class B CDL required
- Proven leadership experience with a track record of building and managing high-performing teams.
- Strong understanding of route-based services, safety standards, and vehicle maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to drive sales and grow business in a competitive market.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced, field-based environment.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally as needed.
