About the Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Adapted Curriculum Teacher to join our Exceptional Children team. This role is ideal for an educator who is committed to meeting the diverse needs of students with significant cognitive disabilities and supporting their growth in academic, functional, and life skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with NC policies and standards.
  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based instruction using adapted curriculum materials.
  • Support students in building functional, communication, social, behavioral, and vocational skills as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with EC staff, general education teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure student success.
  • Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction.
  • Create a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, professional development, and EC compliance processes.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with North Carolina EC requirements.
Qualifications
  • Required:

  • North Carolina Teaching License in Special Education – Adapted Curriculum (K–12), or eligibility for licensure.

  • Preferred:

  • Experience working with students with significant cognitive disabilities.

  • Knowledge of alternative/assistive communication systems (e.g., AAC devices).
  • Training in evidence-based instructional strategies, behavior support, or structured teaching.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a student-centered mindset.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction based on individual learner needs.
  • Proficiency in data-driven instructional practices.
  • Familiarity with state and federal EC compliance requirements (IDEA, NC Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities).
