SouthWest Metro Intermediate District #288 has an opening for a part-time Adult Ed. Instructor (.6 FTE) at multiple sites across the Southwest Metro region.
This position is not assigned to a single building; class location may vary based on student demand.

Description:
Adult ESL Instructor, 185 Contract days
We're seeking a skilled Adult Education instructor to teach higher-level ABE reading/writing (High School Equivalency/college & career readiness) and ESL at intermediate levels (3-6) across a mixed schedule: two daytime classes taught solo, two daytime classes co-taught, and four evening classes taught solo.
  • Teach adult English learners using a student-centered, scaffolded curriculum
  • Collaborate with a supportive team of instructors, community ed staff, and administrators
  • Adapt lessons to meet learners' language levels, goals, and cultural experiences
  • Help adult learners build skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing for everyday life, work, and continued education
  • Coordinate weekly with the co-teacher: shared lesson plans, roles, grouping, and materials.
  • Teach ABE: advanced reading, writing, study skills, and GED/college & career readiness.
  • Teach ESL Levels 3-6 integrating reading, vocabulary, grammar, speaking, listening, and writing.
  • Align instruction to College & Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and program outcomes.
  • Use formative assessment and standardized tools (e.g., CASAS/TABE) to monitor progress and document MSGs.
  • Integrate career awareness, digital literacy, and real-world tasks; support transitions to work, training, or postsecondary.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, assessments, and records in the state adult ed data system.
  • Collaborate on placement, co-teaching, IET/IELCE activities, and student support.
  • Foster a welcoming, trauma-informed, culturally responsive classroom environment.
Job Summary:
Provide instruction to student learners in the core content areas as defined by the state of Minnesota, and specifically English Language to non-native populations. Responsibilities include lesson planning and instruction, conducting ongoing assessment, monitoring student attendance, collaborating with other staff, and keeping student records.
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with multicultural populations and English language learners preferred.
  • Minnesota Teaching License in English Language Learners K-12 preferred.
  • Experience with multiple instructional designs and differentiated instruction.
  • Proficient and effective computer skills.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Ability to build successful relationships with students and staff.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with teams.
Pay & Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $55,000-102,0000 based on education and experience and will be prorated based on the FTE. Available Benefits Competitive and comprehensive benefit package available:
