THE POSITION
The Project Manager leads the planning and execution of building operations, capital improvements, refurbishments, and facility enhancement projects at Scotiabank Saddledome and Scotia Place. This role manages projects from initiation to completion, ensuring timely, on-budget delivery with minimal impact on venue operations and events. The Project Manager works collaboratively with internal teams, vendors, contractors, and external partners to uphold the arena's high standards for sports and entertainment.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Project Planning & Execution
- Oversee all stages of building operations, capital projects, refurbishments, and facility enhancements, including design, procurement, implementation, and close-out.
- Define project scopes, schedules, budgets, and performance metrics in partnership with senior leadership.
- Liaise with consultants and contractors to ensure project specifications align with venue standards and operational requirements.
- Prepare and issue RFPs, evaluate bids, and participate in vendor selection and contract negotiations.
- Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to safety, building codes, and sustainability standards.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures and coordinate necessary training to support successful project execution.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Events, Engineering, IT, Food and Beverage, Field of Play and Fan Experience teams to ensure project deliverables align with operational needs and event schedules.
- Communicate project updates, timelines, and impacts to internal and external stakeholders.
Budget & Schedule Management
- Develop monthly reports for the department, reviewing metrics to provide recommendations on performance enhancements.
- Track expenditures, invoices, and payments to ensure adherence to financial controls.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, schedules, and reports for executive review.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks that could impact cost, schedule, or quality.
Facility & Operational Integration
- Coordinate project activities to avoid conflicts with live events and daily operations.
- Conduct post-project evaluations to ensure systems and installations perform as intended.
- Support the development and implementation of long-term facility maintenance and capital improvement plans.
Events
- Provide Back of House support on some event days to assist with requested set ups and preparation during events, acting as a first point of contact between Event Command and our Building Operations team.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all projects comply with applicable codes, ADA requirements, and safety standards.
- Work with staff to enforce safe work practices and minimize risk during construction.
- Maintain documentation for permits, inspections, and warranties.
- Actively participate in health and safety programs and follow policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
THE INDIVIDUAL
The ideal individual will have the following background:
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient with project management and scheduling software (e.g., Click Up, Smartsheet, Primavera, or similar).
- Advanced Excel and financial tracking skills.
- Knowledge of building systems, construction methods, and venue operations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support event schedules and project deadlines.
CERTIFICATIONS
- Diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management, or related field; equivalent education and experience may be considered
- 5–8 years of progressive project management experience, preferably in sports, entertainment, or large public assembly venues.
- Demonstrated experience managing capital projects ranging from $100K to multi-million-dollar budgets.
- PMP certification or equivalent professional credential preferred.
- Experience working with public agencies, design teams, and contractors in both design–bid–build and design–build environments.
