The Opportunity
This is a hands-on working manager role and an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact. You will build and lead a small HR Operations team for Liberty's International Americas region (Canada, LATAM, and a small USA presence). You will execute transactional work, solve operational problems, and create the team operating model, processes and controls so the team can reliably deliver excellent service to employees and HR Business Partners. This is a visible role that requires strong stakeholder management, project discipline, and a bias for calm, practical execution.
You will make a direct impact by turning complexity into dependable, well-documented HR operations. You'll design how the team works, take on hands‑on responsibilities during the build phase (and beyond), and lead a small team that delivers timely, accurate HR and payroll services across multiple jurisdictions. If you enjoy rolling up your sleeves, building systems and teams, and working collaboratively across all levels of an organization, this role is for you.
Duties & responsibilities
- Be a working manager: split your time between hands‑on execution (owning complex or escalated cases, covering core operational tasks, particularly in Canada) and people leadership (coaching, allocating work, hiring and developing team members).
- Stakeholder engagement: work effectively with employees, HR Business Partners, senior HR and business leaders, Finance, Legal, Global Mobility and external vendors; influence without authority and maintain strong, trusted relationships at all levels.
- Build the team operating model: design roles, workflows, SLAs, knowledge base, handoffs and governance across Canada, LATAM and the USA; map and document processes and implement cross‑training and knowledge management.
- Project and priorities management: lead regional projects (including vendor RFPs, HRIS/process improvements, system migration and payroll optimization), manage multiple concurrent priorities, establish project plans, own timelines and status reporting, and ensure disciplined execution to deliver results.
- Day‑to‑day HR operations (you will perform and delegate): manage the full employee lifecycle from onboarding through exit—conduct background checks, prepare and process employment documentation, execute employment changes, manage disciplinary actions and terminations; answer and triage employee and HRBP queries; deliver first‑day inductions; conduct exit interviews and provide action‑oriented insights.
- Leave, benefits and absence administration: manage maternity/paternity/parental/unpaid leave workflows, coordinate disability/accommodation cases, and ensure accurate benefit enrollments and deductions.
- Data, systems and compliance: act as HRIS admin for regional modules you own—enter and maintain accurate employee data, run regular audits to ensure data quality, complete regulatory filings and compliance reporting, and keep policies updated and communicated to employees.
- Oversee payroll operations: Oversee the company's payroll operations to ensure accurate and timely processing, compliance with regulations and policies, and effective coordination with payroll team and external providers.
- Vendor and mobility coordination: manage relationships with background‑check, payroll and benefits providers; coordinate work permit/visa processes in partnership with Global Mobility.
- Continuous improvement and reporting: define and measure operational KPIs and SLAs (e.g., payroll accuracy, time to resolve inquiries, onboarding completion), lead automation and process improvement initiatives, and deliver regular metrics and insight to HR leadership.
Skills & qualifications
- Proven experience in HR operations, HRIS administration, or a similar HR role (experience across multi‑jurisdictional operations is a strong plus).
- Strong project management skills—ability to lead projects end‑to‑end, prioritize competing demands, and keep workstreams on track.
- Excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills; proven ability to work effectively with leaders and individual contributors and build consensus.
- Highly organized and execution‑focused; strong attention to detail and comfort working in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining calm and control.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a pragmatic approach—able to simplify complexity into clear next steps.
- Technical literacy with HR systems (HRIS, payroll systems, ATS) and strong Excel/reporting skills.
- Experience managing vendors and running RFPs preferred.
- Previous managerial experience with a track record of coaching and developing team members.
Personal attributes
- Collaborative and emotionally intelligent: builds trust quickly, communicates respectfully and resolves conflict constructively.
- Hands‑on and humble: comfortable doing the work yourself while developing others.
- Disciplined and methodical: creates structure, documentation and predictable outcomes in ambiguous situations.
- Results oriented and dependable: follows through, meets commitments, and improves processes to prevent repeat issues.
- Lead with curiosity and seek to understand: Ask thoughtful questions and listen actively to diverse perspectives, seeking root causes before proposing solutions so decisions are informed, empathetic, and practical.
- Positive influence: fosters a calm, professional environment and elevates team performance.
